Hello to all my friends using QuickBooks desktop for their personal, non-business home finance records. This QuickBooks Desktop Home finance lesson will show you how to record personal, individual or family expense and written checks and expenses in to the check register window. It’s just like the old check register that our grandparents (and for some of us, parents) used to use to keep track of their bank account. I appreciate how you reconfigured the QuickBooks Interface for the simplicity of home finance use. However, I must confess, I stopped at Video 8 -13 because I will be training my client to use QB form screens, Write Check, Bank Transfer, Make a Deposit, etc., save for JE (never any JEs). I picked up again at Video 14. Thank you.

So what is the difference between trial balance and profit and loss? Thank you for sharing these videos!

In this home finance series, there is not much difference. In a normal company situation, the trial balance sows the balance of every account, but the profit and loss only shows the balances of the income and expense type of accounts. The profit and loss also summarize the 2 categories, but the trial balance is just a list. Thank you for your complement, I hope you will “like” and subscribe -Mark

Hello! These videos have been incredible in re-educating myself in the use of QuickBooks for personal finance tracking after almost 20 years. I've watched 8 videos so far, which have walked me through setting up my personal company file. I wanted to ask before I started truly recording my transactions... Do any of these videos touch on the entry of a beginning balance? I'd like to go back and start tracking from Jan. 1st of this year. However, I always remember my CPA creating new companies with a personalized chart of accounts, as well as a beginning balance. The videos guide me through starting to record entries via register, however, I'm wondering if I need to address that beginning balance first? Thanks in advance!

For startups, there are basically 2 options: 1) Declare a “start-date” and make sure all numbers in all areas of data are correct as of that start date.
