That brought back so many memories. This was how our yard was when I was a kid. We would spend our days raking pine needles in to as high a wall as we could. Take several pine cones especially the spikey unopened ones and lob them at each other over our well constructed walls. Of course this was when kids actually went outside and played, so many, many, moons ago.

That was a back-breaker with all that raking!! Glad there were no snakes amongst all that trash. Good job as always. According to the map you live at about 43 degrees South. I live now at about 33 degrees North in central Georgia USA. Our little town was where a man named Jim Fowler first convinced farmers in the 1930's to start planting pines as a cash crop since cotton was no longer profitable. (Although some farmers still plant cotton on a small scale. At first they laughed at him, but now pines are everywhere! In fact, the Long Leaf Pines are also profitable as mulch as well a timber with needles 10-12 inches long. They are raked by hand, baled & used around shrubs & gardens in the Spring & Fall. Recently they have started using a machine which rolls them into round bales like hay. It is called "pine straw". So tree farmers get some profit for many years before the pines are large enough to be cut for timber.

Living in Maine... We do have our fair share of pine needles 🤦♀️👍. Wouldn't a tarp be much easier, especially with the back & forths. We utilize tarps a lot when it come to trimming pines. And during the fall season .. FYI... The needle-shaped leaves of conifers have tough external coatings of cutin, a waxlike substance that helps to protect and trap fluids inside the leaves. The fluids themselves act like "antifreeze" to keep the life-giving parts of the needles from freezing.
