I used Quicken years ago to keep track of my spending and budget. Now I have purchased a 2016 version and all it wants to do it pay my bills and link me to payments and schedules. Do I understand from your video that it is no longer useful for the private accounting of my expenses and budget? I'm getting a feeling that Quicken has morphed into something that won't meet my needs.

+Katherine Schumm I'm sorry if you misunderstood something in the video. You can still do private accounting of your expenses and budget. The bill tracking is just an added feature. You don't have to use the bill tracking if you don't want to.

Nate, Loved the video very helpful! I do have a questions though, I am trying to decide if I should link my account or do it manually. I want to use this for my home budget as well as for my small business. What should I take into account when trying to make this decision?
@Topfinancialtools8 жыл бұрын
+LISA CALDER I always link my accounts if the bank supports it (and most of them do now.) It makes things so much easier. By linking your account, you'll be able to automatically download your transactions, which makes it much faster and easier to reconcile. I can't think of any downsides to linking.

Hi, Nate, My paycheck is gross salary, it appears to my bank account transaction. I can't category it as "Net Salary" which Quicken provides, and there's no "Gross Salary" category to choose from. What would you suggest me to manage it on Quicken? Thank you!
@Topfinancialtools8 жыл бұрын
Hsiang-Ping, You should see a category for just "Salary". This is the one to use for gross salary.

I am now retired and sold my rental, cashed out all investments and put them into safe a CD. I would like to still use Quicken but go back to the Starter Version. Is there an easy way to copy my files into the starter version, and why can't it do it automatically skipping the ones it does not support.
@Topfinancialtools8 жыл бұрын
+Howard Kirby I would recommend you go with the Deluxe version instead of Starter simply because the Starter edition doesn't support importing data from older versions.

I had a bank account already set up. I decided to link it to my bank account. Now I have two accounts in Quicken instead of one. How do I merge these two accounts now???
@Topfinancialtools7 жыл бұрын
You can follow the instructions at this link: www.quicken.com/support/duplicate-transactions-or-accounts-downloaded-quicken-mac It is for Quicken for Mac, but also applies to Quicken for Windows. Just follow the instructions to deactivate, then reactivate an account. Be sure to choose "Link" instead of "Add" when you reactivate.

I am trying to add a bill and track through vendor site but it isn't listed on the search. Is there a way to add
@Topfinancialtools8 жыл бұрын
+Sackia Austin Only vendors that show up on the search work with the online bill tracking. You can still add them manually as a bill and Quicken will track it for you, it just won't sync with the vendor's account management system.

How do I add a bill without being forced to link it to an account? I have debts I want to manually track and post payments on
@Topfinancialtools8 жыл бұрын
+Autumn Moon On the Bills tab, click on "Bill Reminders". Then you should see a dropdown button on the top right called "Add Reminder". Use this to set up a bill. You don't have to link it to the online bill tracking.

I am having problems getting my categories to autopopulate. I have populated "memorized payee list" but things like uber will not populate category such as public transportation and Tom Thumb will not populate with gas station. Any ideas?
@Topfinancialtools8 жыл бұрын
I've had similar problems. There seems to be a bug with categories autopopulating correctly. You can try right-clicking on a transaction and choosing memorize payee. This sometimes works for me. Beyond that I haven't found a fix.

Im run Quicken 2006 and I get a new computer and won't to update to 2016. Well all my file transfer all my business accounts.
@Topfinancialtools8 жыл бұрын
+Douglas Breyfogle As long as you have Quicken 2004 or newer, you'll be able to upgrade to Quicken 2016 with no problems. When you install Quicken 2016 it will convert your Quicken 2006 file to the new 2016 format.
