Yes, SketchUp is really user friendly and a great way to design your own shipping container home. Although I am not an affiliate with SketchUp at this time, I have a link to their website to download your own version. I use the Professional version and have been happy with it. Also, at this link, there is another hyperlink that shares a great SketchUp tutoring KZbin channel that helped me a lot at: liveinacontainer.com/how-much-are-shipping-container-homes/

Are there pre-designed container plans that have all the engineering parts done? Blueprints that you can purchase? While I love the idea of designing my own, I've read multiple blogs from people who did that, and ended up having to spend tens of thousands of dollars getting engineers to evaluate the plans in order to get their permits. I really love shipping container homes, primarily the cost-savings part, but if that has to get added in, a lot of the cost savings goes away.

Yes, there are some websites that sell shipping container designs. I don't know how complete they are. I just joined a FB group that is call Container Home Plan - Guide. Not seeing many plans offered there yet though. Here is the link to that FB group if you are interested: facebook.com/groups/197360092077464/ Be careful about building a shipping container home in order to save money. I have found from my own research and reading other's experiences that they are not less expensive than conventional home construction. I wrote an article that shows the cost to build a shipping container house at liveinacontainer.com/how-much-are-shipping-container-homes/ Hiring an engineer to help with the construction documents is really important. Anytime the shipping container is altered or stacked differently than their original purpose, the structural integrity gets compromised. A structural engineer can help you make it safe again. The engineer can also help you with the correct type of foundation for the loads and soil the home will be built upon.
