Quicksand was the first band I ever saw, opening for snapcase and the deftones. I still love them to this day, 20 plus years later.

I saw that same tour at La Luna in Portland, OR. I think I was the only person I knew who actually cared about Quicksand... tragic stuff. During the Deftones set, Chino Morano jumped into the audience and crowdsurfed several hundred feet to the bar at the back, got a pint of beer, crowd surfed with the beer all the way back up to and on stage with it WHILE SINGING the entire time. Hell of a thing to see, ha ha!

I saw them open for Helmet in Buffalo in the early 90's. Never heard of them before that. Their 40 minute set left me stunned and changed my life. They were THAT powerful live!

A few years ago I met a guy from NYC who was the manager for both Quicksand and Helmet in the ‘90s. I was surprised, because I guess I had always thought of the two bands as “rivals” or something. That was quite a fun conversation, as I was obsessed with both bands in the early to mid ‘90s. Only got to see Helmet live, though.

When I was like 14 going to see quicksand (opening for freaking white zombie weird I know!) Walter came up to me before the show wearing bicycle gear and asked me if their was a healthy restaurant around. I wouldn't say full on like Lance Armstrong apparel but definitely spandex shorts....
