2 years ago I saw an exact replica of this animal in a clearing by a wooded area in my neighborhood. (I'm in Charlotte NC ) We do have coyotes in our area but I had never been lucky enough to see one. I was so excited the day the animal stood in the clearing and we looked at each othr for a minute or 2 and then he or she ran back into the woods. I was certain it was a COYOTE simply because they're in my area and I KNEW this was NOT a domestic dog of any kind of mixture. Even the tail carriage, the coloration, body configuration- EVERYTHING matched this red wolf! But I don't think red wolves have come into the Charlotte area?

A lot of coyotes have red wolf ancestory. It’s why east coast coyotes are so big. That is a typical east coast coyote. When you look at them in person, or side by side, the difference in size is more apparent!
