I built one of those tennis ball platforms because my neighbor said when I played it was like I was hammering the floor. After I built it he said it was miles better, he could still hear it but just as soft noises. I bought cheapest tennis balls, it turned out those were practice balls that are softer than normal ones and I cut a little opening into each because I wanted to screw them into the platform from inside. Turned out it made them quite softer than usual (because there is no air inside keeping their shape) and so the platform is kinda wobbly but also absorbs the pedal hits really well. So it's a tradeoff but since my kit is TD17K-L and I don't sit on the platform itself it's perfectly acceptable.

This was an outstanding video, and very accurate. Indeed, there are two types of noise - the acoustic sound of the beater hitting the head (regular drums or eDrums), and the IMPACT noise (the vibrations going through the floor). Beyond all the ideas that you mentioned, is to use the low noise type beaters only when required (times of day, etc). And when they are not, use regular beaters. There is no doubt that the feel is affected, but over time, you will adapt to both. It’s not perfect, but it’s an accommodation to a challenging situation. Unhappy neighbors or family members can really cramp your drumming activity, so I have learned to adjust. One last option is to learn to deliberately play/practice softer when needed. This is a wonderful skill and requires development of muscle control & timing. Extremely useful for jazz, or for being able to handle small clubs, living rooms, etc. Maple sticks can also help, as they are the same size as hickory sticks, but lighter.

That was WAY too short. Which also means I loved it

Regarding durability, for what it's worth I have been using the Tama quiet beater (not the "half-size" version shown in this video, the big one) daily for about 2 years on my acoustic kit with no patch, and it shows zero sign of wear and tear. The main downside as mentioned is that it doesn't feel quite the same as a regular beater (because it's a lot lighter, and maybe also because of its shape), but it's a pretty good option overall for volume reduction.

I have the Roland double kick pedal with built in noise eaters, and I have my set up on one of the soft Roland mats. It still feels like I'm generating a lot of noise mostly from the beater hitting the mesh kick pad, and I get the feeling that the noise eaters are taking some of the energy out of my kicks making it harder to play fast double bass and doubles. Still searching for a better solution.

Any tips/tricks to get some of the softer beaters, esp the Tama Soft Sound to trigger consistently? I'm finding that it's missing triggers on occasions. Other than that it's proving to be excellent - house mate is much happier!

So for the Kd120 it seems like there was not really a difference. It could possibly mean that if you apply a strong noise reducing patch like the drum-tec one, the beater does not really make a difference anymore.

I was more curious if the feel also changes. I'm using a real feel mesh head, and I try to get a more realistic feel to the beater. Can those beaters do that, or gives a normal plastic one the best feel?

Justin, have you tried the Adoro Silent Drum Beater on say a Yamaha KP90 kick pad or any other E rubber kick pads? I'm just trying to lower or deaden the tap, tap, tapping sound from the beater. Thanks, Dwight

Did you ever find a solution? I recently got the new Yamaha DTK8M with the KP90 drum. I find it to be super loud, and looking for a way to make it quieter.

The Tama would be nice for a Jazz setup. I feel like my bass drum is too loud when I play a swing groove.

Id suggest buying one of the wool beaters instead. It takes off some of the attack and make the bass drum sound more "jazzy". Other than that, just work on your bass drum feathering technique

No need to cut the tennis balls in half for the platform. Just use a whole saw to cut big holes in the boards and put the tennis balls in the holes.

The Adoro Silent Beater looks similar to the Lidwsh Beater. (www.lidwishsoulutions.com/) I used Lidwish beaters to play drums at home, The Beater's stick part was made of a material similar to plastic, and the stick part was bent when stepping on the kick. Eventually, within a month, the stick was broken and could not be used. When kicking with the Aodoro Slienct Beater, the stick is bent, so it seems to be made of a material similar to plastic. In my opinion, the stick part is expected to break after a long period of use. But if it persists unbroken, I'm sure it'll be an incredibly quiet Silent Beater. But if it breaks, buyers will have to take a weak kick to make sure the Beater doesn't break.

@adorodrums 3 жыл бұрын
hi, Stefan, the maker of the beater, here.. When a beater breaks, we replace it. Sticks may wear due to the hard crashing on cymbals, but the beater has less stress to last, and we designed it to last. Note we made the pole partly of steel so the shaft won't get dent.

Yeah but look at how the rod bends. It seems like the quietest one, but also probably feels like crap to play. Even then it seems like it's only 1 dB quieter than the others, which is negligible.

Rather 8 dB, but it also reduces the shockwaves, so triggers last longer and your neighbor wont hear your pads.
@adorodrums
@adorodrums 3 жыл бұрын
@@IRLguy777 hi, the bending is intentional. We want to keep the sound, or triggering, tight, but reduce the thwack noise. Having a thick soft felt will not improve triggering, only reduce the thwack. But when the rod bends, you improve not only noise emmission, you also have less double triggers, less breakage on triggers, and on acoustic drums the kick still sounds like a tight kick, not like a muffled ballade kick. You can add the foam for a softer sound.
