Thank you so much for this video! I’m already tired of how most KZbinrs are approaching this topic. It’s amazing how no one considers their own personal style and what looks good on them or what they like, and jump on the trend bandwagon like there’s no tomorrow. I purchased my bags because I like them, I enjoy carrying them, and they look good on me. To be honest, I don’t care what the current trend is. I will continue to use all my bags- the ones that have logos and the ones that don’t.

People just like to jump on the bandwagon so most of them don't have their own personality. They're just a copy of a copy. Their sense of style is based on what others are doing or trendy at the moment. Fashion is an expression of oneself. If you're happy with prints and logos do it.

Finally, someone that is realistic about the mood factor in luxury and style. I am more of a classic girl, but there are times when I throw in my logos. Another thing is the Louis Vuitton never full where they will say that the reason they don't like it because it is knocked off too often, but they will wear Chanel, Lady Dior, Birkin, and/or Kelly which are so copied it is hard to spot the real ones. All of which I have in my collection. Great insights.

My take is the pressure for "quiet luxury" seems pretty judgy, in that who push for it or look down on others who are more logo'd/flashy. Fashion is fun because people have personal style. Some people are going to go all in for the monogram and flash (e.g. cassie thorpe) some are more classic (you, sohpie shohet). I view both sides as incredibly fashionable. Like you said it'd be pretty boring if we all dressed the same. I have a pretty colorful wardrobe (lots of jewel tones), but i accessorize with neutral bags/shoes. I just look and feel better in brighter colors than neutrals.

I’m totally with you! More variety, more fun! I think Cassie looks happy and radiant in her own style and Sophie looks confident and comfortable in who she is. Fashion is just an outward accessory to how we are inside. We get to decide what we want to show the world each day - fun, colorful, bold… quiet, understated.. whatever it is. ❤️

Agreed! I actually find LV canvas to be a very classic look, excluding the giant or collab items. Not trendy at all in my personal opinion . There are also trends in fashion and retail. There are also social media trends, what is being discussed on social media, which isn’t necessarily based on actual retail figures or fashion industry editorials. I find the social media content trend to be short lived and while I listen to it for entertainment I don’t take any of it seriously as in no time there will be another trending topic. I’m in planner groups too and see the same. A size or brand of cover will trend due to a very aesthetic influencer and by the next month everyone will have moved on to the next thing. Many of these bag vids also focus on what other people think or looking rich or old rich or new rich or whatever. I don’t dress for others ever so I find it very bizarre, the concept of wanting to look a certain type of rich.

I love this message. I am on average a no-label, pro “quiet luxury” person most days, but I own a coach bag with the monogram jacquard print, and love using it every now and again because I love the idea of showing off. The quiet luxury trend is cool, but that doesn’t mean it’s a faux pas to wear labels if it makes you feel cool! I personally LOVE seeing people with the label show off-ing. It shows their style, confidence. I’m all for team wearing whatever the heck you want!

Great video! It’s a great point to make that the move towards quiet luxury is honestly another trend and we really should only follow it if it’s a reflection of our own style. I tend to dress on the louder side but I appreciate how striking monochromatic outfits are and incorporate that into my style. But the world would be boring if we all followed the trend and dressed the same! For that reason I tend to shy away from most trends because I feel like my creativity is being taken away. Moral of the story, just wear and buy what you love. Don’t let social media dictate your look!

I really love my collection right now, but for some reason I’ve been thinking I should sell some of my “louder” items. I DO NOT want to do this, but I’ve felt a little pressure to do so. I’m not sure from where, maybe KZbin/social media with this whole “Quitting KZbin” and “price increase” yada yada yada drama. Your video and perspective is a breath of fresh air. Years ago, I found out that buying into trends that did not suite my style or body would result in a lot of waste. My style throughout the years has been pretty constant and curated. With some pieces added as needed. Also, I tend to get uncomfortable when I'm asked about my designer items. I think it's because money is personal for me and I've received some criticism in the past for luxury goods. But once again, that's a personal issue I just have to deal with.

I think what works best for us is what makes us feel comfortable and confident. If anything you own is making you feel the opposite, it may be worth evaluating the underlying reasons. I really enjoy these types of videos where you speak about what's trending, or just generally speaking about what is on your mind. I can agree with you where some days, I want to accessorize with a bag that is more loud; and sometimes I want to keep my outfit more muted and simple. I think there are different places and times where you want to make a statement, or where you want to keep it chic and minimalistic - neither are right or wrong (for the most part if we're talking about dress codes and such). We can choose how we like to present ourselves externally how we please, and I think staying true to who you are and/or what you're feeling, that's what is important!

Wonderful video 🎉 I have been a quiet luxury person since my teen years. I agree, I think this is a trend. Quiet luxury is not new. I hope people will not sell their existing inventory for this trend to only need to buy back inventory they honestly already owned for the next trend. Also, I love when you said, “I use it when I use it”. I was loving on my inventory and enjoying it no matter the bag size. I didn’t even notice this is the age of small bags until watching youtube videos. I don’t find the Gucci monogram attractive so I don’t wear it. It’s that simple. I wear what I find appealing, I’m not going to change my taste and personal style based on what people say. For example, the world has been wearing “boyfriend pants” and bell bottoms the past few years and skinny jeans are apparently no longer in style- do I care? It’s just personal taste. For most of my life I wanted quiet luxury because I didn’t want to stand out. In recent years I’ve had some breakthroughs in my life that now I’m ok being seen and stand out so I buy color bags and bold logos. Although I’ve always liked bold logos I was too afraid to buy it because I could be standing out. I still love black in clothing and bags, but I’m starting to branch out to have colors in my clothes too. So for me I’m all about bold and loud logos on my handbags now, but I still enjoy my quiet luxury ones. But I have never sold a bag because I buy what I like and not what’s “in”. As I’m getting older I do find myself going more towards bags that are “quiet”. But I also thinks it’s because I find a lot of the “louder” bags to be repetitive. I agree that there will always be trends, and we have to follow our own style and what works for us. I tend to wear a lot of neutrals like you and tend to make the statement impact with my accessories whether it’s a pop of color in a bag or my jewelry and shoes. I also dress more conservatively at the office because I have to project a certain image in a leadership role. On weekends, I can express the other side of me. On a kind of side note, I started buying the "standard classic wardrobe items", ie camel coat, black everything, beige everything, white button down shirt, because I saw it so beautifully curated online, but then had an epiphany that I missed colour sooo much. I really love deep jewel tones and I always get complimented when I wear any kind of red or burgundy shade. Finally I started questioning why I was doing something that doesn't bring me joy (luckily before I went too far with it) and realised the power of Instagram images (that are VERY staged). I'm still enjoying my neutral wardrobe basics, but I'm mixing it up now with the colours that I love and missed. Fashion/handbags/anything in life has to work for YOU, not the other way around. Lesson learned!!

Ohhh my gosh!!! I can relate to this but in the reverse. I tend to enjoy neutrals but there was a lot of hype around colors the last few seasons so I experimented with pops of colors and eventually realized NO, and I went back to my usual. I think it’s good to know ourselves! 😉

Living in a big city on the West Coast, I am mindful of where I'll be and what I'll be doing. Most of my bags are "under the radar" and those are the ones I carry the most. But I also love my logo heavy bags and sometimes I'm in the mood for them.

I think joy should be the center of anything you buy. With that said, loud or silent luxury have time and place. And that determination of such right or appropriate time is again up to an individual decision. For example, however silent luxury is the ‘’current trend’’ as said, I would never wear thousands of dollars in The Row or Loro Piana to go feed the homeless. I think fashion gives options: loud or silent but everyone should exercise compassion. Thanks for positing.

I 100% agree with you, I feel bad for those who have a logo lifestyle thinking that they are being judged by this quiet luxury trend, really, I admire those who can pull of the trendier looks, the logo sweaters and shoes and bold colors and styles, but even when Logos are the big trend, I still wear my simple cashmere turtlenecks and my LV canvas bags, I am naturally understated and not because I am trying to be on trend, I am just a shy-er, more introverted and classic style person and this reflects in what I wear. I truly think people should wear what they love and embrace their style, who wants to be the same as the next person! No offense either way!

It’s an interesting theory but then you have to wonder why luxury sales skyrocketed during the lockdowns when the rest of economy was at a standstill, businesses were forced to close, and people were losing their jobs in droves. I wish this was a conscious effort to be more sensitive of the current economy but I simply don’t think that’s what’s driving this.

Love this - it's great to start a discussion, I'm sure we've all got an opinion on this. I must admit to never having been into big branding, I'm not always sure if you could call my style quiet, though, as I love pops of red and bright blue. I have a Loewe Puzzle, and I love the slouchy feel of this bag as well as the fact that most people wouldn't know what it is, however I also love the Gucci Horsebit in the navy with the interchangable navy and red strap - for me thats all about the colour combination (with a tiny bit of nostalgia for my favourite but discontinued Eau de Gucci perfume that was packaged just the same). Tbh, the monogram canvas puts me off, but the overall aesthetic means that I can't get that bag out of my mind. As for trends, if it fits into my style, and I know I'll be wearing it for several years, then I'll go for it. Otherwise, I'll pass. And yes, I love how some things look on other people, despite me knowing that it's not something I'll be investing in, and that's okay.

Great video. I also have a very classic, muted, quiet style. And while I am totally for “quiet luxury”, I absolutely adore my LV canvas and Gucci canvas bags. They definitely add a bit of chic factor to my otherwise monochrome outfit. Do I love my leather bags that are a bit quieter - yes. And maybe I even love them more. But that doesn’t mean I don’t love the canvas ones! I recently picked Gucci sunglasses with the GG logo on the side and I LOVE them. And I’m going to rock them ✌️

But, I have my moments that I want to rock my Chanel bag, or LV logs or my Birkin (though sometimes I turn it inward as if no one knows what it is). lol I love non-logo Gucci and Furla as well. Very understated - I like your perspective on this topic. Good video!

Love the luxurious look of that Dior bag. Sidenote: My MK shoulder bag that cost @$60-$90 (not even leather) and I get complemented on it each time I wear it. This makes it hard for me to spend hundreds or up on a leather bag. Might just rent bags to have fun experiencing a luxury leather bag.

Of course, you should wear what you want. Some people are all about the logos. But I seem to recall a similar trend in the 1990s. The late 1980s were all about flash and status symbols. In 1987 we had the stock market crash and eventually, the pendulum swung to minimalism and what they're now calling quiet luxury. I seem to recall the same thing happening after the market crash of 2007 and the Great Recession. Of course, fashion industry is always at work trying to change our minds. It's all about generating revenue. For past couple seasons, the fashion media was heralding. the return of the oversized bag. However, I did read that consumers were not necessarily jumping on the bandwagon for this trend. In other words, consumers do not always adopt trends promoted by influencers. As in previous decades, some of this reluctance may be tied to the economic climate.

I got a reversible Gucci coat which I can use depending on my mood. The one side is made up of Gucci monogram(s) all over and the other side is plain black. So I can flash the “here I come” side which most people can recognise and enjoy glances or I can be completely neutral and disappear in the background. Same with bags, I mostly have subtle bags with few logos but also have Gucci and LV recognisable ones.

There’s also the fact that a lot of this quiet vs. loud luxury is so clearly rooted in classism. Luxury goods have now become somewhat available to a class of people who previously never could’ve even dreamt of those items, and now trends are emerging that are a THINLY veiled attempt to create distance from that class! It’s so silly because it’s all rooted in perception. Chasing after a perception of wealth, class, and superiority that for most of these “trend followers”…. Only exists in their head 🤷🏾‍♀️

A trend is generally when something has become substantially more popular than usual. It doesn’t necessarily have to be new. Right now, everyone is talking about quiet luxury as IF it’s a new and cool concept. The searches for quiet luxury items has skyrocketed online. So in that sense, it is a trend at the moment. People who were never into dressing quiet luxury are now all of a sudden interested.
