Both albums have their place in history for different reasons. I personally think that Asylum is one of KISS’ best musically and production wise.

Kids that didn't experience Metal Health when it came out just don't know. It was f'ing great to have that in the mainstream. It was like being able to turn on CNN and have them tell the truth. It was so refreshing.

My friends and I bought the album without hearing it. All we knew was it was Randy Rhoads' old band and Rudy Sarzo was on the album. No singles or videos at that point. I'll never forget hearing a sportscar drive by as I was pumping gas, windows down and cranking "Bang your head... Metal health'll drive you mad!" I thought, "Wow, somebody else knows about this..." Within a couple months, the videos were in heavy rotation on MTV and Quiet Riot was a radio regular.

I remember in the 80’s when Metal Health came out it was so popular it was responsible for heavy metal music being played on mainstream radio stations, it opened the door for all heavy metal bands to become mega popular.

Quiet Riot Metal Health easily wins for me. Metal Health is the album that got me into Hard Rock/ Heavy Metal music back in 1983 at five years old. It is still a MASTERPIECE to me all these years later. Agree with that Yngwie Malmsteen is a game changer. Marching Out is the first album I ever listened to by Yngwie and it blew my mind big time. He is still my all time favorite guitar player.

Run For Cover is pretty badass, too. But you're right, they never put out music as good since the debut. IMHO, Metal Health is just okay, and Quiet Riot was not a particularly good band.

The longer video is the better! I don't agree this time though. I could never stand Quiet Riot. Their videos were funny but everything else... meh. Especially their moronic singer who had a mouth bigger than Dee Snider ever had... which was scientifically impossible. They had one thing in common though: both had one successful album and both felt they had a right to give advice to everyone else, including the bands much much much more successful than Quiet Riot and TS. KISS rules.
