This is so bittersweet omg. What I got out of it was that the room was the embodiment of their relationship issues but they never address it hence why it’s the quiet room. The girl has her eyes covered because she doesn’t want to see the truth and the boy has his mouth covered because he doesn’t want to talk about it. The train tracks are like their relationship which seems to be going way off track. And the LEGOs represent how they have to tip toe around each other and their problems. Kinda like ‘walking on eggshells’. You see that when they were young there are barely any LEGOs & instead there are like lego walls built. When the girl finally decides to face the problems she cuts her ribbon then proceeds to cut his too making both of them confront their problems. I found it interesting how it looks like he’s about to say something but instead of covering his mouth, she covers his eyes. I think the quiet room was representing them never talking about their relationship problems but in the past it was quiet because there was actually nothing to say because their relationship was stable. Or this is all bs and in actuality they both just like sitting in a room called ‘quiet room’ with ribbon floating around them and the girl found them annoying and finally decides to cut them 😂 lol

Im struggling to understand the full meaning of this song. They dont want it to end but he wont acknowledge there's a problem so it just gets worse. With the lyrics here altered a bit from the self cover from ewe, I feel like its something more complex than just getting a divorce; they got married young but as time goes on the girl realized he still has growing up to do because he just keeps running away from their problems but they aren't kids anymore and the pain is stifling for both of them as they can physically feel the break up coming; they test the waters by trying to leave but it hurts from the thought of being alone so it fails and at the end the truth comes out that she still loves him but needs a break and she opens his eyes to how serious the situation is but promises to come back. He tries to chase her in the darkness but all hes able to do is watch her and hope she comes back like she said. ( Alternately i also feel like she freed them from the cycle of almost breaking up, opens his eyes so they can finally confront their problems, and together they leave this "quiet room", regaining their relationship outside of the 4 walls they began to hate. >.< its so hard to understand, send help, its driving me crazy.)

sweetieoverdose this is the best interpretation. Thet have problems, they bonded over that and decided to date. It was great but he was lying and she was blind to it and didn't want to know the truth. They realised there was a problem and assumed it was the fact that they were dating and not their previously mentioned flaws. They broke up but it hurt so they got back together, maybing not dating again, but just one last meetinf for closure and an explanation. They realised their flaws, fought, cried, then accepted that their relationship could be what they both wanted if they were honest and worked on their flaws. It was bittersweet but they left to improve themselves before they start dating again, but that might not ever happen.

(part 2) Now I believe the rest of the song to be mostly sung from the point of view of the female, mostly because she addresses the male character in the lines after the chorus. Here, at 1:34, we can see the boy/man sitting among a pile of upturned potted plants, all except for one. This directly mirrors the illustration at 0:33 of the girl/woman with the flowers. The ravaged state of his plants compared to her lively ones shows that he is quickly running out of reasons to stay in the relationship, and supports him wanting to leave it in the previous scene of them dancing ("running far away, he was trying to escape"). When she appears, she quickly fixes all the broken plants and starts to water them, which represents her desire for things to remain as they are despite her companion’s growing desire to get out of a relationship he believes is dying. Then, in the next scene, the couple sits at the dining table much like they did the first time. However, they are eating the flowers. This may seem odd, but if flowers are really metaphors for happy memories or reasons to stay together, than them consuming the flowers symbolizes them indulging/sustaining themselves and their relationship with those reasons (although she makes a comment that whatever she is eating tastes like paper, which could show that even whatever good she still saw in the old times has begun to feel fake or fade away). Then we see the two talking to each other, both crying, about the male’s attempt at leaving in the previous chorus, and after hearing what her boyfriend/husband has to say ("I'm hurting everyday, could you tell me what to do?") she begins to realize things aren’t working out (“this love was never meant for me and you”). In the lyrics previous she also says things about already knowing that no happiness can last forever. It’s also important to see that their bands suddenly vanish here, at the exact moment she says “this love was never meant for me and you”. I think that after the male character’s failed attempt at ending the relationship, they begin to understand each other, and finally start to be open and honest with each other. The removal of the bands symbolizes the removal of their communication/connection issue (the mouth and the eyes). They will remain missing for a little while, showing that they are being honest with each other in the next few scenes. Moving on. After that there’s a part where they’re both standing in like a mulberry bush, and I can’t figure out much about the meaning of that. Could it be supposed to symbolize them both being stuck like a fog-like place where they can't completely reach each other (“I’m reaching for you”)? In addition, the “fireworks of water separating us two” are their tears, reiterating their mutual unhappiness in their current situation. Right here, lasting from 2:13 to 2:33, is a strange section of the video to me, because of the color choice. Unlike the cool purples/blues used throughout the rest of the video, the backdrop is colored orange (a “warm” color, vs. “cool” colors, according to color theory). The distinct change in the color scheme makes me think that this section of the movie represents something opposite the melancholic feel of the video, like “happiness” or the ideal state of the relationship that the two are yearning for. A connection, understanding, possibly the warm fuzzy feelings they had at the beginning, before they acquired the paper around their faces. The balloons, similar to the flowers, represent positive memories/reasons to stay in the relationship flying away en masse (there’s a smiley face on the balloon the female character is holding). A balloon flies in front of the male's mouth, and one covers the female's eyes, echoing the white bands from earlier. The male character hands her a balloon, and she immediately lets it go, which signals that she may have accepted/had a change of mind in regards to the idea of them separating. Also, when the male tries to inflate another balloon (given to him by the female), it explodes in his hands and the color immediately switches back to purple (symbolizing a reminder of the reality and that they’re unable to create new happy times despite their best efforts in this “post-orange” world, and were always just holding onto the past). Also, balloons need helium!!!! You can’t just blow up one with your mouth and expect it to float!!!! One of the two other places in which this shade of orange appears is within the eye of the male character at 1:49, where he is looking at his wife. Soon he closes his eye. His vision could be a flashback, due to my theory that orange has a “happy memory/old times” connotation with it, and him closing his eye on it could further the idea that he is giving up on the past and the relationship. In the lyrics during this orange segment, the wife reminisces on the old days, and perhaps their marriage vows (the balloons floating past her), and expresses her wish for them to be truly honest with each other for once about how they feel if that night is going to be the last they ever spend together. The white bands reappear in the next scene leading up to the chorus. The female character is singing about how it (the relationship, or the walls between them?) is crumbling away, and is shown brandishing a pair of scissors, which is for cutting the bands around their heads off. (A shot of the paper link chain that the bands are based off is shown after at 2:38, as if subtly confirming the theory). Also, there is a montage of a flower in a glass of water as the glass overflows and shatters. Unlike the other plants, this flower is not in a pot but in a glass of water. Since flowers in only water don’t have a long life span, unlike potted ones, I think this is showing us a salvaged flower that they tried to save (probably the final one), but it died anyway. Also, the flower died from too much watering (something normally beneficial to plants). Because I said the flowers represent the reasons they have for staying together, the loss of this last, uprooted flower represents the final straw in their relationship with each other. Their song is coming to a close. The final chorus refrain approaches. Again in their bedroom, like the first chorus, they start to “dance”. However, this time it is reversed in that it is the female who draws her husband close rather than vice-versa before. She discreetly cuts their bands off with her pair of scissors, and this is the point where they both understand what will eventually happen. When she cuts the ribbons off his mouth and her eyes, she is both getting rid of the divide between them as well as cutting ties. She shushes and puts her hand over her husband’s eyes, as if wanting to surprise him with whatever she will do. She leads them past the three images I analyzed shown at the very beginning of the movie (the three potted plants at 0:03/2:59, the room with the globe in it at 0:01/3:01, and the clock at 0:04/3:04), and they are all in their unbroken before versions, which seems to indicate that them leaving each other is seen as a positive thing that reversed things to a better time in their marriage. They also move past the railroad and the Lego bricks, which are drawn as similarly neat and tidy. Next, she reaches the door, removes her hand from his eyes, and after asking the question of whether they’ll stay together, she presents the surprise/the answer she had been keeping from him: the door. Somebody leaves the room (to an orange outside, to a warmer place). I think it is the female, since she grabbed the handle of the door, but it could also be the male due to the way the characters are drawn. Either way, it represents her realization that they should be on their own, and they divorce. In the lyrics leading up to this chorus, she says the she wants him to “hurry up and disappear,” probably because she wants to spare herself the pain of him leaving as much as possible rather than because she hates him, because even though she may have conflicting feelings she understands that it is what he wants and what would be for the best for both of them. (She also says that she would come back again, which probably means that she is open to the idea of them getting back together in the future or that they will stay in touch as friends despite not being in a relationship anymore.) One last thing: if you compare the shot at 0:18 with 3:28, you will see that the pictures that had been blurred out are not anymore. Flowers have also been added in addition to the paper chains. I think this is supposed to be the animator saying that the memories that they shared which had been cut off from their memories could be remembered more fondly/realistically once they had undergone the divorce.

"I'm breaking down inside, I can't do this anymore," is the girl coming to terms with her suffering from this toxic relationship. she's in pain. When (i assume the male) goes on to tell her, "the feeling fades, just wait a little more," is telling her to hand on, it'll get better this pain will fade. that's a lie. then about the seesaw, this one was tough to figure out but it's about the ups and downs their going through, a crowd watching. people watch relationships as their either fall about or grow stronger. everyone is expecting them to keep smiling as if nothing is wrong, that causes an aching heart truly. about "our tears were sparking like lights that make the stars shine bright," which is basically -stars can't shine without the darkness- the tears being the stars shining through the darkness, they're sparkling. Then the train tracks, it's off the rails, just like what is happening in this relationship. tiptoeing around your problems, having fun, looking at the bright side, regaining that bond you once had...having fun, taking off their shoes and going with the flow is like taking a break from the problems just for a moment, going with the flow of life and having some fun. "So keep your eyes locked onto mine, and don't look away," is like saying, "keep your eyes locked into mine, don't look at the problems." "Even if I couldn't remember why we were together," is like forgetting. like getting into an accident relationship and not realizing how much you love them. having to learn and build up from literally nothing at all. I'm now at 1:36 of the video. the dead plants and broken pots are like the problems and the plants are their solutions, not very well thought out and make it worse. by watering the plants and fixing the pots, they're fixing only some of those problems and heartache, even if it's only a small portion of the situation. I'll also address now that the blindfolds their wearing is a way of coping. not wanting to see, no, choosing not to see. becoming blind to the problems at hand, they're afraid to speak up. the quiet room is the room where they chose not to speak of anything and instead just trying to fix it. they aren't communicating. I know everyone has heard this at some point but communication is KEY in a relationship. to know how your partner feels, mentally, physically, all that, their problems, how to possibly solve them, what to do. "I came home with a fever Realizing I was getting sick and tired of married life" is saying like being sick. being sick of everything, having a fever of everything being so hot and uptight. they're going threw hell and high waters. they're growing sick of the relationship, it is toxic. "Running far away, he was trying to escape," he was trying to run from the pain, trying to desperately getaway. “I’m hurting every day, could you tell me what to do?” he(r) pain shows more, the blindfold getting thinner and wearing out, she knows she'll have to face everything soon. "I looked him in the eye and said the one thing I knew," “This love was never meant for me and you”, " which is doubt. (s)he doubts their love together. doubt is always one thing that'll ruin a relationship, it'll lead to overthinking and pain. trust me. "The rush we feel is lonely, and we’re just so exhausted Of dealing with the problems that we don’t wanna solve yet I’m reaching for you Over the fireworks of water separating us two," this is them feeling terrible, they're reaching out for help as they become separated, the fireworks going off and showing everyone the problem at hand, reaching out for as much help as possible making it loud. they're blindly dealing with the problems they don't wanna solve yet. the rush they feel isn't lonely it's empty. their relationship is at a stop and trying their hardest, yeah the rush is not going to be the same it's exhausting. "Hey, can you still remember just what we swore on that night? I’ll repeat it One more time" is them trying to keep positive, remembering the good times and the spark. Trying their best to feel happy, reciting something that's now bittersweet. the ballon he starts blowing up represents excuses; lies. you keep going and going blowing up with them until they pop and the truth comes out, you're startled and heartbroken everyone had to find out this way. finally, they get tired of all the lies, the doubt, heartache, everything. they're coming to terms, building the courage. wanting to fix everything, stop procrastinating and wallowing in sadness and self-destructive tendencies. just wanting it to stop, stop lying, speak up. they cut the blindfolds, forcing themselves to face everything together which means they'll have to leave the quiet room, the problems aren't quiet anymore and neither will they be. they just want the truth. being lead towards the solution to everything, don't look back on the past! lock your eyes with mine sweetheart, let's go. Rewatching this two years after that first time my meaning of this has changed. Im fully aware its supposed to be about a couple whos relationship is struggling but it feels more like two versions of me. One is little me, not knowing its okay to transition, still being traumatized by the people ive had to remove from my life. Two is current me, knowing that it still hurts and that things may never truly be okay, but that its getting better everyday and we just have to keep moving forward. The way the characters speak to each really reminds me of my old vs current mindset and its crazy.

I remember sobbing to this song in middle school cause it reminded me too much of the relationship I was in. She had a bad home life and as her partner I felt that it was up to me to make her better, I was also just getting medication and therapy so I really thought I could help. It wasn't until high school and we went to different schools that I was able to learn that it was not my responsibility to make her better. She didn't want to get better and she was dragging me down with her. So when the girl shows how she fixes his flower pots, how spring no longer brought her happiness, and when she cuts their ribbons, let's out all of her emotions, and leaves him for her own sake instead of getting dragged down by him, I cried. I felt how she felt. Free, guilty, and never looking back. I wonder how she's doing now?

i have a theory, this was about two people who fell in love when both in a dark place in their life. they tried to get through it together, but one couldnt see what was making them so sad and why they were in such a dark place, and the other knew but couldnt say what was making them so sad. the love almost fell apart because of both of their depression but they got through it when one finally saw what was wrong and the other finally said it.

I love this cover, I've had it on loop for an hour just drawing and I haven't gotten sick of it. I know, I know, this was made 2 years ago and Rachie probably wont see this, but this cover which is probably about relationship issues is amazing. The PMV is beautiful too, it really ties the strings to your voice. I've been going through a bad time and your voice is so nice to listen too after spending a long day fighting depression, it makes me feel as-if my depression is non-existant. I originally thought this song was about pure depression between to people and how they bonded through it, eventually helping each other out. It picked out so many pieces of depression and I was so touched by the details. Yet, looking at the lyrics, I caught the line "Realizing I was getting sick and tired of married life" and I recognized it was actually about a marriage that was falling apart. The guy with the bandage around his mouth doesn't want to tell the girl that he no longer wants to continue their relationship together (they made a promise earlier in the relationship to stay together no matter what), so he keeps passively waiting and is miserable inside (his first part ends after the first chorus, and his second part begins when the balloons show up and ends after the balloon pop = he decides not to tell her). The girl with the bandage around her eyes knows that their relationship will come to an end, but she wants to remain blind to it and try to keep their relationship alive (plants). She eventually realizes that nothing is getting better and there is no hope in continuing a relationship they're both tired of. The guy won't admit the truth and end it off first however, so she decides to end the relationship for the both of them herself by leaving and setting them both free (her first part starts after the first chorus and stops when she recognizes they're tired of married life together, her second part starts after the balloon pop and ends with the rest of the song).
