It's a shame the purchaser of your patents couldn't deliver on the upgraded rack being less expensive than the original. The new one is quite a bit more expensive than the current One-up rack and at over $1,100 with shipping (for two bikes) is a bit too much to consider an upgrade imo. I do love my One-up!

I've seen the original racks on cars driving around but never seen for myself. Today a owner of 1up rack said there was a new one coming named Mac 2. Well found it was Mach 2. I like the old / original rack how stout it looks. I own a heavy E-bike and not 100% sold on the Mach2 thinner design (Thinner box that mounts receiver to racks). How will the Mach2 do with lateral & twisting forces say while getting on and off ramps for freeways. IE... 50lb bike, off ramp from freeway speed +60mph left and right forces will be great. New price is great but not if you don't have them to sell.

I love the improvements on the mach 2. I'm considering the Super Duty Single for my ebike. I would love to see an option where I could use a ramp on one side. As a woman with a heavier ebike, I don't have the upper body strength to lift the bike up. I could see where allowing the tire holder on one side to unfold down to the ground in the unlocked position would allow me to use a ramp to load the bike. You have a great product here.

I was looking at the original QR and was asking questions about it, and that's when I learned about the Mach 2. Is the M2 all aluminum construction? I see that the wheel rollers are black. Are they plastic? The website says that the M2 is 30% lighter. What is its weight? What I like about the original QR is that without a hitch pin you can adjust how close you want the rack to be to the bumper. I want a rack that hugs the bumper when folded up.

The rollers will be aluminum not plastic. The weight of the single Quik-Rack Mach 2 is 19 pounds. On average for all racks the weight is around 30% less. The new Quik-Rack Mach 2 is even closer to the vehicle than the old Quik-Rack was. It also has more ground clearance then the old Quik-Rack. You can learn more at quikrack.com.

I saw this while researching the 1up - I noticed there were 2 sites and when I questioned the one site about this upgrade, I was told directly that someone ‘must be using their old website’ and that there were no plans for any upgrades for this year or next and they had no knowledge regarding the features I was requesting. I would much prefer this version to the old. As an amputee, I need certain features that many would consider bonuses. But I am obviously concerned given the difference in information received.

Purchased a 2" Heavy Duty a few years ago. It has not been a great investment. When things bend or break, it is nice that 1up offers replacement parts. I have had more than 1 bad experience dealing with customer service. Parts not included, nickel and dime add ons to additional repair costs. I spent over $1100 on the original rack, spent over $275 on replacement parts. I damaged part of the rack, other parts should not have bent or broken in the course of normal use. Would not buy this rack again.

Hey Cal, what's the dimension on that hitch attached hitch pin? I have a invisi-hitch for Subaru and I'm worried the mach 2 wont fit since the pin will hit my bumper

The captive pin system can be removed if there is no space for it on your vehicle. The anti-wobble hitch bar will still keep the rack tight and secure. If you want then you could use a Velcro strap like the old Quik-Rack.

The Quik-Rack Mach 2 Heavy-Duty has a weight limit of 65 pounds per bike. That is more than the original Quik-Rack weight limit of 50 pounds. You can see more at quikrack.com.

Hi Cal, Thanks for the reply. I have another question. I want to purchase the Quik-Rack Mach 2 Heavy-Duty rack and an add on for it. I don't see a Heavy-Duty add on which I would need as both bikes are over 50Lbs. I was trying to avoid the Heavy-Duty 2-Bike Quik-Rack Mach 2 as I won't always be carrying 2 bikes. There is no Heavy-Duty Add-On. The Heavy-Duty relates to the 2 inch 2-Bike Quik-Rack Mach 2 for 2 inch receivers only. All new Quik-Rack trays can support bikes that weigh up to 65 pounds, Heavy-Duty or not.

Look, I'm no fool and I realize you can buy that wrench and that new versions of products will be better but damn man, learn how to market to your customers. He's an engineer (and a good one!), not a sales or marketing guy...but I agree with your point. His tone makes a bit more sense factoring in that he reportedly had a difference of opinion with partners/colleagues in the original Quick-Rack venture. Still, it's true that showcasing an upgraded product can be done much better than this. That said, my version of the old single rack is very easy to secure with a ~3" u-lock through the two holes above and below the access point for the tightening nut. A 2+ rack system would be easy, too--just drill a hole through both faceplates and use a small u-lock.

I dont like the way the new quik rack mach 2 locks in the hitch, it is easier for a thief to cut a small lock like this one with some nail clippers, unlike the 1up it locks at the bottom where it is harder for the lock to be cut. Its also easiest for the add-ons to be stolen with the locks easy access. Yes he did improve some things, but there are some set backs. Another negative is ... the rack only has , what looks to be abou 5 in of shaft going in hitch compared to the 1up about 9 inches inserted in hitch

Some vehicles, especially newer ones have a through hole type receiver tube. This means there is no bottom to the receiver tube. Most receiver tubes of this type are 4-6 inches long. If you insert the original Quik-Rack all the way in, then the ball could pass the inner end of the receiver tube. Then, when you tighten the security bolt down, the ball has nothing to tighten against. The rack will remain loose, and the ball could fall out and be lost. The rack is now relying on the Velcro strap to prevent it from falling off the vehicle. The original Quik-Rack rack hitch bar can be inserted as much as 5.5 inches in to the receiver. This could allow the ball to past the inner end of the vehicles receiver tube. This has happened in the past and will happen more with the newer vehicles. The new Quik-Rack Mach 2 has a shorter 4-inch hitch bar. This shorter hitch bar cannot be inserted past the inner end of the receiver tube. The tightening mechanism is on the end of the hitch bar. If it was any longer, then the same problem would occur just like with the original Quik-Rack. The new Quik-Rack Mach 2 hitch bar only needs to be inserted 2-inches deep to be secure. The lock that comes included with the Quik-Rack Mach 2 is a standard type brass padlock with a hardened 1/4-inch shank. When it’s on the vehicle, the lock is hard to access with bolt cutters. I am sure the lock cannot be cut with just nail clippers. I tested the other lock that can be purchased for $19, using just a hammer I was able to easily brake the lock off. I plan to show a video of this on the website quikrack.com. All locks can be defeated, they are mostly just a deterrent preventing a quick-grab. No one likes a robber, crook or thief, I should know!

You can use any pad lock you want. The Quik-Rack Mach 2 can be used with a 3/8 inch diameter shank if desired. The current locks that it comes included with have a 1/4 inch harden steel shank. We provide 3 keyed alike locks with 2 keys for convenience. There is no additional cost for the 3 locks. You can learn more at quikrack.com.

The original was easiest to steal because someone just needed an allen wrench with a hole in the end or a "1UP" wrench. It was not unique like a keyed lock. Get a boron solid steel lock.

Cal, I went to your site and tried to get the "newsletter" you mentioned on the site for adding my name to the waiting list. This seems less secure than the original due to the fact that the tool used to securely attach the rack to the hitch is now built into the rack itself. The ood one used the Allen wrench and you had to have it in order to remove the rack from the vehicle. All a thief has to do now is cut that tiny lock and remove the entire rack off quite easily.

If you do some research he is the original inventor and patent-holder for the quik rack (his original patent for the rack expired a few years ago) and claims to have never sold the trade name "1UP USA". Whether or not that's true, we won't know anytime soon. What we can safely assume is that there was some kind of business dispute or fallout that produced a nice amount of legal issues, which is why we can't get the full story. As to why there were 2 websites of the same name, and why this guy is revealing his "new and improved" rack under the exact same name instead of creating a different brand altogether, we probably won't know for a while.

I did some research Alek, thus I found out this guy isn’t the 1UP USA company. The details of his past relationship with that company are not my concern, what is my concern is his attempt to make me think his product is the established 1UP USA company, an attempt I resent. And it’s bad business to bum rap a competitor’s product. This guy would do better to have his product stand alone.

He never says he is 1up. In fact he addresses the fact that he is not the company that is currently selling the older design on his website. All he says is he is the original inventor(which is true). Shows the differences/improvements on his original design(again not misleading in anyway). The name 1up is never said, in fact if you didn’t know about 1up(which he started), you would never know that the original is still available. Neither party is being upfront about what went down, but the facts are he did invent the thing and start the company. As an owner of the original design, his comparisons and points he makes are pretty spot on. If he took peoples money and hasn’t shipped product I would understand that animosity, but all he has done is show the design and ask people to get on a mailing list to keep first come first served if still interested when it ships.
