Un grand merci à vous pour cette objectivité !❤ Thank you for this very clear tutorial! I thought this 3-position adjustable seat was ideal for all guitarists. Also I was so convinced, that I almost bought it... This tutorial allowed me to have a different point of view, which I validate, because I am not convinced of the practical side of this seat. Indeed, this backrest is too far back, and not adjustable forwards, and even if it is lowered, it is not enough. A simple stool does the job better with a comfortable seat reimbursed, and by spending less financially. In addition, a classical guitarist or wanting to play Flamenco like me, has a straight back or leaning slightly forward. A big thank you to you for this objectivity!❤

I purchased the Quicklok DX749 chair just before I discovered your video...very honest review. I agree with your conclusions, and I use my Quick Lok probably more as a computer chair than when I am playing and the reason for that is that, it allows me to use my motorized workstation at any height I choose. When I play in the classical position I use a variable height footrest as you have suggested. I tend to leave the desk at one height however, instead of moving it up and down all the time. It is a fairly comfortable chair for playing or working at the computer. For playing, I recommend taking short breaks every so often to stretch the body. My biggest complaint with the Quick Lok is with the rubber foot grips on the footrest peg. They fall off from constant use unless you fix them down with cement or electrical tape wrapped around the footrest peg to ensure a tight fit.

Hi Ken, Yes, I still have and use the two IDX749 chairs but regret purchasing them. The design seems to have had more to do with ease of manufacture than functionality. And yes about the foot rest 'grips'! I tried heavy duty double sided sticky tape etc....nothing kept them on. They 'won' in the end and I ditched them..ha. Thank you for taking the trouble to make a comment here. Enjoy your guitar ;)

I agree with you sir. I usually practice guitar between 6 to 8 hours a day, religiously. I purchased the DX-749 in hopes that it would be an alternative to sitting on my bed. I lasted about 10 minutes on It. It became impossible to focus on my guitar because I was so preoccupied with trying to find a comfortable position. A complete waste of time and money...

You covered my main issues pretty quickly. I'm currently using a nice folding chair, which has been a great deal better than what I was doing before, but sitting on it a long time I tend to slump into the back, so it seems better at least while playing guitar to have no back at all, but then it's no good for just sitting there otherwise. Basically, this stool would be much better if the seat were smaller. You nailed it near the end. It's also a computer chair. My set up is all on stands, but it's both a guitar workstation and where I also do just about everything on my iPad.

about to buy one of these (I’m a keyboard player) I had the old model the D749, i actually had no issues with it and it’s now worn out after years of use, hence gettng this newer DX749, i guess it’s just no good if your a guitarist ? My older D749 was a nightmare with the feet falling off, that is indeed RUBBISH!!🤣 so I decided to superglue the end caps and then they do NOT fall off
@IMDguitar Жыл бұрын
I think that most of the problems I’ve encountered are really only relevant to guitarists. (I still use the Quicklok for general sitting at the desk). The end caps are completely useless! And, over time, I’ve found that the adjusting knobs also fall off (so becoming unadjustable)! Sorry I missed the comment when you posted it :S All the best - Ian

Guess I should have watched the video BEFORE I bought the chair. I immediately noticed that the little plastic pieces on the footrest fall off constantly. I wanted something (relatively) comfortable that would force me to use better posture. Ironically, it seems to force you to slouch back and slant the guitar backwards on your lap, which isn’t really the “right” way to sit when playing guitar. I will try your “2nd footrest” method.
@IMDguitar4 жыл бұрын
yes..I found that with the plastic tubes on the footrest! I've had to stick them on. And be careful of the seat itself..the 'leather' is paper thin. I sat gently with a loose tremolo arm pointing down and it went straight through. I've had them a while now and would be even more negative about the whole design. thanks for posting ;)
@rickwoolley75963 жыл бұрын
Interesting. I have had the stool for years and couldn't wait to get shut of it. I now find the quicklok chair exceptionally adjustable and comfortable, but that wasn't initially apparent until I worked at it with seat heights and foot rest heights. The only thing I found improvement in was that I made was a platform for my feet that sits on the footrest tubes. Those tubes are really uncomfortable and should be flat plates. Different strokes I guess. I would not consider dropping the Quicklok concept based on your review as for some it's truly superb. Sorry dude - can't agree at all.

Great job to consider the classical style. LOL While searching for a chair, I anticipated the problems that you confirmed. I was looking for one with a minimum seat height of around 18" but they are all 23" or higher and that doesn't make sense for a classical. Many of the pictures of people on them all had their legs going down hill. Great review. Not going to get one of those types. But they got sneaky marketing gimmicks to fool you.

Reviewer's height would be useful as I have read elsewhere that anyone under 5 10 would not reach the floor. The "backrest" is a lumbar support as demonstrated in the PC desk section. The question is why does is it designed to go so high? The best I can think of is it may be a safety device so the user does not lean back too far and fall off. Good point about the square seat and the foot rest being recessed too far. I'm in the market for a chair/stool but will now only look at round or bicycle shaped seats.

Thank you for this video! I am having much the same problems with a recently purchased K&M music stool with backrest. As primarily a classical player the optimal sitting position is impossible to achieve with it as one ideally ought to have both feet on the floor and ones thighs supported horizontal to the ground with the instrument resting on one’s left thigh at approx 45deg angle so headstock pretty much level with ones eyes. Atleast the seat on your Quiklok was adjustable to a lower postion that might allow such a posture - but as you rightly say that would then mean you being perched on the front edge of tthe seat with zero benefit from the backrest!! I have been looking at drum thrones with backrests but once again I suspect the same conundrum would pertain. I do suspect therefore that a simple low or adjustable stool without back rest at all might have to be the so,ution!

Ditto on the previous comment. Thank you so much. I almost ordered it cuz it looked like a really nice guitar chair. But it doesn't look very comfortable even though it's adjustable. I noticed some guitar instructors have chairs that look like armchairs without the arms with a full back on them. I need to go with that or a stool. Thank you for this review. That guitar chair is very overrated.
@IMDguitar3 жыл бұрын
Yes, I used to have a full-back leather office chair that had removable arms. I removed one arm for the body of the guitar and left the other for leaning on(!). It was a very comfortable chair for teaching and all round use in the music room. (You had to sit forward to play classical style, but you also have to do that with these Quikloks). The design of the Quiklok seems to be for ease of manufacture, NOT for practical use. Thanks for commenting ;)

That chair sucks. I had the previous version, and that one sucked worse. The so-called lumbar/back rest is completely useless. The foot rests are too short, and they have spinners on them that cause your foot to slide off. The seat doesn't go low enough if needed. An armless office chair is 1000x better, but not portable. There really isn't a portable solution with a backrest. A barstool or drum throne with a swivel seat and backrest is the closest.
