Who mixes 1 part cement to 2 parts sand for base (scratch) or brown coats. No contractors in my part of the country! 3 to1 over lathe and 4 to 1 over masonry which will give equal coverage to pre-mixed quikrete. Convenience and labor savings, yes. Consistancy, depends on skill of mud man. Coverage? I don't believe this comparison is apples to apples.

I. smell. bullshit. reusing the mixer after each batch will not have the same loss as the last the loss has already coated the mixer. the time you save is in prep which for any job site wil not be much more for the sand and concrete. That said the product is consitant and does remove more prep time so pre-mix has benefits. its NOT 25% in product.
