The reason I love quilting is because you can use what you have, you can change your mind, if you make a mistake you can find a way to fix it or leave it, (no one else will probably know anyway). I love scrappy quilts, the more tedious ones, appliqué, impromptu, crumb quilts, embroidery, paper piecing, hand and machine quilting. Whew!!!! Love sewing. Love the people that sew and quilt too.

Yes! I agree you CAN leave the mistakes…they’re like fun Easter eggs for the recipient if it’s a gift and if the quilt is for you a gentle and humorous reminder to slow down and take breaks :)

Loving your channel. I am doing a refresher because I haven't quilted in awhile. I taught myself quilting when I was in my 20s. I am 45 now. There was no KZbin. I see patterns where the piecing is beginner friendly, but then the quilting part for the same quilt is more of an advanced level.

The websites of fabric manufacturers are a good source of free patterns. The website of a quilt shop that I buy from online has a design wall feature where I can line up fabrics. Using that feature can help identify fabrics that don’t fit in - by color - with a group of fabrics that do look good together. It’s harder to use to compare print sizes. I’m enjoying your series.

I’ve been collecting quilting fabric for several years and have a large closet full. None of it have I paid full price. Currently I’m into making sampler quilts with various sizes of various blocks. It is so fun. A couple of them have been patterns for books that have kits and fabric requirements. I print out the sheets with the suggestions and first shop my stash then fabric stores. I use the suggestions to pick fabric I like and have similar color values. Really enjoy your enthusiasm and common sense approach.

Love this video its educating and very thorough 🥰 Choosing fabrics is my favorite part of quilt making 😊 I want to share my method of choosing fabrics with you that has worked for me for the majority of my quilt making years 😉I usually start with a colorful print as you suggested or a theme such as reproduction prints cause I’m older 😜 and I love them 😍 then I look for dark, medium and light or low volume and 99% of the time I like to throw in an accent piece to make it more interesting 😍 and the accent piece can be as bright or somewhat subtle as I like. This is my tried and true method of fabric making choices and keeps the quilt interesting. It’s so fun to see the different ways quilters use fabric and how they choose them. Quilting is such a fun yet personal way to show our individual creativity and they all are so beautiful. I’m loving this! BTW, your quilt pattern is really sweet I can see that made in a number of ways great job 👏🏼

All of your suggestions about fabric and color selections are great. I have found in my own experience is that using the colored dots on the selvages is a great way to begin if you are totally at sea as to how to started. Pretty soon you won’t have to rely on them. Also choose too many and then weed them down to find the right combination. Choosing fabrics can be a really fun part of the process.

Hey, Miriam! Great pattern! I agree! This quilt looks much more complicated than it is. It produces an impressive result. I’ve quilted for many years, but quilts I like this are perfect for experienced quilters who want to use strip-piecing to speed up the process. I’m planning to use this pattern for a quilt for my local hospice fundraiser. Thank you for the discount. It helps to offset the exchange rate. I placed the pattern in my cart, but I wasn’t able to check out-likely because of my international address. I’ve sent you an email to explain the problem I was having. Loving your videos! Thank you, and stay well! FYI You look-and sound- just like one of the actresses in our local theatre community. The perfect doppelgänger! Muskoka ON 🇨🇦
