Does your tube of DS Quin gold really say PY151? Their website and all my tubes are PO48, PY150. The deep version just has more PO48. It is my favorite for sure, although I want to try Holbein.

What a nice collection of Quin Golds you have, thank you for sharing! I agree that the DS version is the benchmark. For me the MG Nickel Quin Gold also comes close. And the Michael Harding version looks fabulous.

Thank you Morrison! You know Quin Gold is a staple for me, especially for painting Retrievers’ coat! I wonder how they will change after all these beautiful pigments will be discontinued…although Michael Harding made an outstanding paint without PR206 or PO48. Thanks for your comment!

Very interesting video, as always. I want to share with you three other colours that you may be interested in. One of them is Rosa Gallery's, which is quite different from the rest of them, an orange tone, more similar to quinacridone deep gold from Daniel Smith or even quinacridone orange from Rembrandt (PO48). Another one is Roman Aquarius' one, made of PO48 and PY150, more yellowish than others, but vibrant and beautiful. To finish, I have Gallo's quinacridone gold, but I think it is a different combinación than the one you have shown to us, because it is made of PY150, PR101 and PV19, granulates beautifully and it is a gorgeous color, my favorite. That's it, thank you very much for your work.

Thank you very much Maria! About Rosa Gallery, I have ordered it from Kiev some time ago, as I love this brand: I’m very curious to swatch it, but it’s understandably taking a lot of time to arrive. About Gallo: this is very interesting! I double checked I’m their website and you have the current formula. They must have found a new solution due to missing PO48…as I said, this reinforces my belief that PR101 will play a role in replacing PO48…very interesting information!! About Roman Szmal…..it’s a wonderful brand and I’m sure it’s a beautiful version….sooner or later…🤤thanks a lot for this Maria and have a lovely day!

Hi Elisabetta! I’m a new subscriber to your channel. I love your comparisons, it makes it easier for me when I’m searching for an alternative to my current paints. I was curious about Michael Harding’s version, as he said that if there’s one colour that we absolutely need to try from his watercolour, it would be his Quinacridone Gold. I have personally used the Quin Gold from Holbein and it’s a beautiful colour. It gives a beautiful glow. I use it for painting landscapes and also for candle/lamp glow. Please do give it a try

First! 💛 my favourite is actually Indian gold by white nights, I find it most similar in hue to the original quin gold PO49, I find the other quin golds just slightly too bright and warm for my more muted tastes! Thanks for another very useful and informative comparison video Elisabetta!

Thanks a lot Ani! I have never seen the original PO49 therefore it’s really an important information that you are sharing….and then probably you’re right, Indian Night muted shade is beautiful in a real painting. Thanks a lot for your comment! 💛💛

The original Quinacridone Gold pigment was a PO49 in other words it was an orange and it looked like an orange. It didn't have so bright yellow undertones in its tints. Now most of the alternative to the original PO49 mixes contain PY150 that is IMHO a wrong choice of colour because gives a bright yellow undertone that didn't exist on the original single pigmented colour. The closest mix to the original PO49 pigment that I've managed to mix my self is made by WN. B.Sienna that is a PR101 mixed with Azomethine Yellow PY129 that is a muted slightly greenish warm yellow. That gives almost an exact match to the original PO49 with no bright yellow undertones in the tints.

Quin Gold Deep from Qor is one of my favorite colors (it’s a pity that their binder - I guess - does not work together with that paper. And mixing it with PY 150 I can make it as glowing as I wish 😊. I will try to do the same with PR101 from Qor and see how close I can get to the Quin gold (PO48 and PY150). Schmincke has done a good job there. I love the granulating mixes in the video. Do you think it’s the M.Graham Quin gold that makes it granulating so nicely? Thank you!
@WatercolorElisabetta2 жыл бұрын
That’s interesting, I also try to recreate quin gold sometimes! Burnt Sienna works as well! I think it was M. Graham that assisted so well Cerulean with granulation, but it’s possible that it would granulate with any Quin Gold! Thank you Martina for your nice words!
@martinanelsonartandpsychol64782 жыл бұрын
I just tried to recreate Quin Gold with PY150 (and even PY129) and Burnt Sienna and also with Transp. Red Oxide and I think it works very well. 😀 I think that the glow comes more from the PY150 and therefore you can substitute PO48 in the mixture. As a single pigment however, I will miss it.

I have better luck with QoR as well, but also only on all-cotton paper. I first tried it on non-cotton paper and it just didn't work. At all. Blotchy and drying *immediately* like this. No flow. Then I used it on cotton paper and it is overall my favorite brand. It takes some getting used to and, I don't know, maybe it is a bit less forgiving than other brands. But if you get the water right (not always easy for me) and use cotton paper, the flow is just lovely, the pigmentation is amazing, and it tends to dry with less color shift than other brands. Actually, this series has been useful for me in that I realized that if I want to play around using non- or part-cotton paper, I should avoid my (pricey) QoR paints and set up a different palette for that. I love QoR's PY150 and am glad they use it in this Quin Gold. Their PY150 really glows and produces beautiful mixes, especially with granulating colors like Ceruleans and, Ultramarine Pink.

I love watercolors. I just bought the M Graham set and Renesans, and ISARO is being shipped. Renesans definitely has different colors than most as they don’t have a lot of your typical earth tones in their pan set but I haven’t looked at the tube set yet. @@WatercolorElisabetta Yes, I do. They mix with other pigments so well. It seems to glow everything you add it to and is like magic to me.
