First generation Le Mans was produced from 1976 to early 1978. This one is a series 2 with the black rectangular tail light, black front fork stanchions, and different fuel petcock levers. Few bikes are as pretty as the first generation Le Mans.

This looks like a good example of my favourite motorcycle. Swapping the front brake calipers to behind the fork legs is a good plan for 3 reasons; and the linked brakes sytem should run a 12mm front m/cyl & a 15mm rear to work properly. It sounds like yours may be too "heavy" with over sized pistons. The best modification (my favourite, for the least cash) is to make a heel & toe gear pedal, it makes the upshift into 3rd foolproof and finding neutral is much easier. A simple arched piece of steel welded to the top of the existing pedal does the trick; and doesnt have to look home-made. Also the `88 on "domino" switchgear is a vast improvement. I wish you much fun on it.

Second generation started in 1977 not 78, i should know. Still own one, purchased new in August 1977. .
