Quincy Jones has had a prolific career that spans 70 years and includes significant achievements in multiple artistic mediums, such as becoming one of the first African Americans to hold a top executive position at a major American record label, producing Michael Jackson's all-time best-selling album Thriller (1982)

Great soundtrack. Funny film. Quincy was a soundtrack machine at this point of his career.

“What are you watching? What's in your DVD player?” asked one of the most-viewed threads at the now defunct “Sinatra Family Forum” which ended last month (08/01/2021) after a 24 year run. Something else I miss from the old SFF. So. Lest old acquaintance be forgot . . . Just watched the movie The Hot Rock (1972) on TCM channel - a personal favorite for a number of reasons: I really liked two of its stars who left us recently: George Segal who died at age 87 in March of this year, and Ron Leibman who died at age 82 in December of 2019. Just as an aside, in my previous incarnation as a TV news reporter I went on a film junket to Hollywood where I got to interview Mr. Leibman for the (long-forgotten) movie “Phar Lap” - about a once famous Australian race horse. (Ron Leibman's wife, actress Jessica Walter also died in March of this year, at age 80.) Tonight, TCM host Ben Mankiewicz in his usual informed, informative introduction didn't mention that one of my heroes Quincy Jones had composed The Hot Rock's inspired musical score; he saved that info for his equally-informed 'afterward': “If you watched the credits” he said, “you saw something that doesn't often happen in a film - musicians, who played on the sound track, getting a screen credit. “Many of you, I'm sure, recognized some of those names: The score for The Hot Rock was composed and conducted by Quincy Jones - who picked highly-regarded jazz musicians to perform his music - including Gerry Mulligan, Clark Terry and Ray Brown. “Moreover, there were several members of the 'collective' that became known as The Wrecking Crew - including bassist Carol Kaye and percussionist Emil Richards - L.A sessions artists who played on hits throughout the 1960's including several Beach Boys songs, as well as chart-toppers from producer Phil Spector. “The score for The Hot Rock found a second life as a source of 'samples' for Hip Hop artists and Rappers like M and M's 2004 hit 'Like Toy Soldiers'.” Thanks for sharing HitMusicSingles. Celebrated elsewhere this night [search] " Great Melody, Great Lyric, Great Rendition, Songwriting Workshop, Harmony Central "

I was trying to find the sample for the Beatnuts - Marching Band Interlude to no avail. I just loved the sound of the snare drum. I decided to look up the Eminem sample for "Like Toy Soldiers" since the snare sounded similar. I found this and now I can enjoy what both Eminem and the Beatnuts sampled. Great drums.

I love to see that, but Redford doesn't like the film (so wrong). He even tried to not let Fox get the film on DVD some years ago, but failed. A Blu-Ray would be cool, though.

That's would be kind of interesting if he switched to synths after brain surgeries. Maybe could hear the frequency pitches better. Because this song is the best use of a synthesizer, besides Giorgio Moroder
