As a life long Duke fan…I CANNOT TELL YOU…how hard it was to watch Kyrie go down with a season long injury eleven games into what we all knew was his only season his freshman year. Duke wins the Chip that year if he stays healthy. He was KILL-ING. Runnin’ circles around dudes prior to that injury. Alright man…I can’t talk about this no more…I gotta go😢😂😂

Maggette came off the bench which made it all the more unusual because until that point, the Dukies all stayed for 4 years. K told Avery that he was f-ing up his program. Then he signed J Williams, Casey Sanders, and Dunleavy- the Warriors GM.

@@christopherfrancis2211 the point is, for years, many top tier recruits avoided Duke and never considered them. That changed when K became USA basketball head coach. Duke went from the rep of ‘that’s where the white guys go to play’ to ‘he coached LeBron, Kobe, & KD.’ He also got to scout every good basketball player under 18 in a closed environment with no competition. His starting team from the 2015 NCAA champions all came through USA basketball. It was a distinct advantage and Jerry colangelo basically handed him a couple of championships.

Every player in college can EASILY be "ONE and DONE", that don't mean you're gonna be ANY good in the NBA. Heck, you can be FOUR and DONE, and won't last beyond the rookie deal in the NBA. There aren't many super exceptional players. Wemby is skilled and athletic for his height....but for the most part there aren't many players that TRULY separate themselves from the pack in the drafts over the years. A lot of NBA greats weren't great in college. I would say that there are MORE great players that went from High School to Pros then being a senior to the Pros in the last 30 years. Kobe, KG, Lebron, Tracey McGady, etc. I can also include Kyrie since he only played like 10 games before he left Duke.

Don't remember the first one and done before Kyrie because 1. Duke didn't have one and done's, 2. They hardly recruited black kids especially the one's talented enough to be one and done, 3. Hardly any of Duke's previous players were even good enough to become NBA All-Star almost all were just role players in the NBA. The fact of the matter is Duke, a once prestigious top basketball school was becoming irrelevant, then they opened the door to the talented black that had sights exclusively set on the NBA but being practically forced to go to college for a year. Kyrie went #1 and made Duke relevant again and made other black kids be interested in going there because before Kyrie there was a long drought of noteworthy NBA players for a school that was considered to usually have the top talent amongst other colleges.
