I just bought this model today. You'll be happy to hear the new ones do have the back lighting. The torque range is now 25-250 ft lbs. The down side is they no longer include the handy adapters.

Great video Joe. One comment, I've looked closely and I don't see where the "." is when you say 7.4. I think it actually starts at 74 ft/lbs. I bought one and set it to 99 ft/lbs and then tested it on my lug nuts that are torqued to 100ft/lbs and it was spot on at around 100.
@JoediyLab3 жыл бұрын
Thanks Lupe, switch to NM to get to the 7.4 nm. There are two modes, NM and Ft/lbs. Then you have real time reading and peak reading.
@candlercando2 жыл бұрын
The display always shows tenths. So 74 foot pounds would display "74.0 lb-ft". I think the decimal point was cut off in this demonstration where it shows 7.4.
@1oxyoke9 ай бұрын
Very confusing. Just to point out a few of the many instances, you keep saying " point" as in decimal point. You say 6.7 or 7.9 ft. lbs, instead of 67 or 79 ft lbs. Good video, but since there are lots of these types of errors, I would redo the video to make it clearer.

Why is it nobody ever suggests removing the batteries when you're not using any of these electronic devices that use standard batteries? Nothing like going to use a tool a couple months down the line only to find a battery started leaking and ruined your investment.

NO, this 1/2" drive mechanism is calibrated for higher torque values, NOT intended to be as accurate down at only 5ft/lbs....that's what their smaller drive tools are for...1/4" or 3/8"....this is no different that standard torque wrenches...you don't use a "giant" 1/2" or 3/4" torque wrench to torque 5ft/lbs....yes, you CAN do it, but it wasn't calibrated for that, so don't expect it to be accurate.
@galagatron53193 ай бұрын

The "range" is limited because like tire pressure gauges the springs in them have ranges that they are accurate. Car gauges are accurate at 15 to 40 pnds truck ones accurate around 80 to 120 pounds. Same as buying 3/8 vs 1/2 torque wrenches. The smaller one has a lower range . And the bigger one has a higher accurate range.
@jokekash3 жыл бұрын
Hi, thanks for the great video. I noticed you mention in the video that the lowest setting you were able to set the adapter was 7.4 ft lb. The range of the adapter, according to the description, and calibration certificate is 29.5 - 145 ft lb. Would it be safe to use it below that range? In the video, you tested it with 7.4 ft lb. but that was a test, not a real application. I think it is safe as long as it is below the manufacturer’s range. Did you get a chance to test it on a real application, or compare it with another torque wrench? I need to torque 3 bolts to 8 ft lb and I am thinking about buying this unit from HF. Thanks in advance.
@JoediyLab3 жыл бұрын
Hi, Yes I noticed the same thing, I have not compared to a torque wrench. But I have several videos that I use it to check for bolt torque and at what torque the Impact wrench can loosen. My torque wrench is really old and has never been calibrated. Great questions, thanks

That is not an error....there's no confusion....what they're talking about is Range-Accuracy...just like with a volt meter...you don't set a volt meter to a 500volt range to test a 1.5v battery...same here....they're talking about the ACCURACY of this torque meter has been tested and calibrated down to that 29ft/lbs and up to ~147ft/lbs....yes, you can set it down to 7.4ft/lbs, but the mechanism's calibration-accuracy has not been set for that low range...that's what their 1/4 and 3/8" drive units are for, calibrated for lower torque ranges.

You complain about the lack of back-light making it likely "difficult" to see under the vehicle and in certain positions and angles of view, which is true, but that's the whole point of the flashing LED light and BEEP warnings....if you know you're going to be in that situation, you don't set it to Trace (real-time) mode and expect to watch the read-out, you trust the warning LED and beep. Also, I've made this comment in a couple of the sub-threads, but figured I'd say it again up here at the message thread top level....YES, you can set this meter to lower torque values like 7.4ft/lbs, but it's not calibrated to be accurate at such a low torque value, that's what their smaller-drive torque meter like 3/8" is for...just like with a standard torque wrench. You wouldn't use a big 1/2" or 3/4" torque wrench for in/lbs or very low ft/lbs and expect it to be accurate....same goes for these..... ....BUT, if Quinn or other mfg bothered to include Calibration procedures for this meter, you could theoretically recalibrate it's accuracy down to whatever low range you want. They DO warn about a button combination that will switch it into Calibration mode, but don't include any procedures after that.
