My mom always collected money. She passed away in February 2022. I found a small jar with wheat pennies. And I found some Morgan dollars and some silver quarters and some other random coins. She used to have a couple of check book boxes full of wheat pennies. Idk if she still has them, maybe in something still packed away. I used to buy her old coins. And after looking up a few of what she had left behind, that is why I watch these videos. I never realized how valuable they are. I remember my mom showing me a penny that had the markings of a dime. I wish I knew where she had it. And I hope that I didn't give it away or sell it. I don't think so but I didn't know to look at the pennies that were in with everything else at the time. Sorry for the long rambling comment. 😂. I just miss her and I get a little bit excited about her hobby now that I'm paying attention to it myself. 😂

Just got 400 rolls of pennies from my great aunt. She passed away at 97 years old. Needless to say she collected pennies for over 60 years. After opening a couple of rolls, I found a complete roll(s) of 1939 and 1940. The roll paper is so fragile it's almost falling apart on it's own. Some rolls are from the Federal Reserve. I've also found a 1944-S sealed in a small plastic zip lock. It looks flawless. I found 1 roll of dimes with a 1963 ender on one end. I haven't opened it yet. Just hanging on to it for a while. Also found a 1964-S proof quarter uncirculated. There's 4 bags if coins stuffed into one huge canvas bag that reads FDIC Sunburst Bank on the outside of the bag. There's also a 24kt Gold 1oz. Coin of Donald Trump in a sealed case. Eventually, I'll take a few days to properly examine everything. For now, I just stare at the end old penny rolls and wonder what I might find. A 1931-S? 1943 copoer? 1944 steely? 1955 DD? Probably not.... but ima have a blast looking.

My wife has 2 piggy banks that she filled before 1962. Her dad would bring her change for her banks every day when he came home from work. She would put all the silver and one bank and all the pennies and another.. when the banks were filled in 1962, her mother put them up in the crawlspace of their new ranch house. When her mother died in 2015, my wife and her sister cleaned out the house to sell it and they found the banks. The banks are a little smaller than a gallon of milk. They are completely full. My wife will not even let me catalog the coins in the banks for sentimental reasons. The reason she stopped putting money in banks in 1962 is, her dad took her to the bank and open a savings account when she entered first grade. And that’s where she put all her money after 1962.. her dad had a habit of saving silver dollars when he got out of the army after World War II. He paid cash for his cars with those silver dollars in the 50s and 60s.. in the mid 70s when I got hired with the company I just retired from. I bid on a job in the meter reading department just for the summer. I was tired of sitting at my drafting desk making changes to circuit maps.. I would find change on the ground practically every day back before credit cards and debit cards when people carried cash and change in their pockets. when I would walk through parking lots of malls and grocery stores where the snow plows would push the snow in the winter. One time I went to where the snow was melting on a hot day, I found over six dollars and change that day.. I also found $87 in bills, one of them was a five dollar silver certificate, and a $20 bill. all this money I found, I saved every penny and I have three banks completely full of all the coins that I found. I have the bills saved in an envelope in my safe.. I also have a piggy bank filled with Eisenhower silver dollars. When my wife and I first met, she worked for a large bank in the trust department. I told her to bring me 10 silver dollars every Friday. And all of them went right in my piggy bank just for the silver dollars. I still have everyone of them.. but they are Eisenhower silver dollars from the late 60s and early 70s… not really worth a lot I also bought $100 worth of Sacajawea dollars the day they became available at my bank. I only opened one of the rolls to see what they look like, the other three rolls I never opened.. One of these days, I’m going to go through those coins my wife has in her piggy banks that were filled before 1962 and catalog each coin

I've been collecting for years but just started yesterday. Having turned 65 and just retired i was looking for a new hobby. Then it came to me when i saw a glass jug and old candy jar that i have been throwing pennies in for years. I started in on the jug and so far 8 wheat cents and a lot of 60s 70s and up with one 2009 ( Lincoln taking a break ). I havn't even scratched the surface (no pun) of what has accumulated for the last 25 or so. Still fun looking closer at these pennies . Then it dawned on me that the mint puts out the best looking coins in the world. They are really good at it. Anyway i found my hobby. Cool video. Have a nice coin day.

watching this video reminded me of the night i found AND lost an 1898 indian head penny... was the coolest penny i ever found other than a steel penny that looked to be near mint. i worked at a self-checkout station at a grocery store and at that time we would "recycle" coins from the coin collectors into the main till at the attendant station, meaning every night i sorted coins from 4 machines to put in the till. i found a lot of cool coins, many silver dimes(one mercury head dime), silver nickels, many silver quarters, some silver half dollars and a few silver dollars. the beauty of it was the company didnt care what the coins could be worth just that i exchanged for them the face value of the coins

My Grandfather's family was from a little town in NC called Mount Airy, near Pilot Mountain. His Brother inlaw owned an Ice Cream truck his whole adult life. He had a couple of steel money boxes, slam full of old coins he had found working (between around 1920-70), and likely collected as a kid as well. I got to look through (drool over)them with my Mom's cousin one afternoon, when I was only around 9 or 10yrs old, and we were there visiting. That was 50 yrs ago, so I don't remember many specific coins, but I've looked at many collections over the years, and I know I've never again seen anything like that again. Just to give you an idea of the type coins, that must have been in those boxes, he thumbed thru them, the night before we were taking the bus back to VA, and he had three or four, 1864 three-cent pieces, which he gave me one of. What a way to start out a little kid's collection.

Greetings from Lunenburg, Nova Scotia. Before Canada phased out the use of pennies a few years ago, I had been collecting any American pre-1959 'Wheaties' pennies I could find (schools having fund-raising 'Penny-Parades' were a good source!) Over the preceding decades, I managed to accumulate about 4200 of the U.S. 'Wheaties', as well as several of the 1943 steel pennies. Can you give a rough estimate as to how much these coins might be worth? Or should I just turn them back into the bank for their face value?

Common wheats in average condition will fetch about 2-3 cents each if sold all together. I definitely wouldn’t turn them in!

I will give you $100 for the Pennie’s- let me know if you want to sell them

@@billstarr6198 I just checked to see how many there are, and it totals 4285 of the pre-1959 'Wheaties', 13 1943 steel pennies, and 1 1905 Indian Head Penny. Where do you live? I'd have to consider shipping charges when determining a price.

I would definitely check them against the key dates and low mint dates before selling them for a quick bit of cash, would hate to see you short yourself when you've put so much time into finding such a large number of foreign coins.

QUIN, what is that wood grain. In the first wheatie… what causes that? I had a large jim beam bottle full of coins which I sorted found a hat box full of wheaties and about 2 pints of pre-30s wheaties and found a couple of those grained coins. found a few weird coins, a blank planchet too in the bottle, not to mention silvers.

I believe that it is a result of an improper mixing of the metal alloy

When I was around like 9 or 10 years old, I had some Lincoln Wheat Pennies that were from the 1910a, with the oldest one being from 1912. I forget what markings that they had, but I am sure that they are pretty valuable.
