The little ridges on the edges of proof dollar coins come from how they’re struck: unlike regular dollar coins, which could have the obverse or the reverse facing up when the rim lettering is struck onto the coin, the proof dollars’ edge lettering always faces “up” when the obverse is up. The ridges come from the three-piece collar which is used to strike the lettering onto those proof coins.

Quin, You should definitely take your time and look at both sides of these coins, for mules. There is a Sacagawea with the Statue of Liberty on the back. The first discovery sold for $84,000. I know first hand there is a second one in circulation. I have proof of the second coin I took pictures of it. Simply because I thought it was odd or maybe a specialty coin worth a few dollars more, like a proof. Soooo, I spent it,😢. About 3 weeks after I spent it. I seen a KZbin posting about that exact coin that was found about 6 months before I put mine back in circulation. This happened in Northeast Indiana. It's what made me start collecting coins. Because that will never happen again.

Very nice hunt!! They didn't start the Native American NIFCs till 2012. I've noticed the notching on the edge dollars as well...figured it was caused by the mint process etc.

Always cool to find proofs in circulation. I recently found a 1776-1976 S bicentennial quarter. I've also found 1971-S and 1989-S Kennedy half proofs.

9:28 2009-2011 aren't NIFCs for the Native American series

2009-2011 were indeed the Mint's second attempt to get Sacagawea/Native American dollars to circulate. It didn't really take, again. 2012 to present are definitely NIFCs, as any 2012-2020 presidential dollars, and all of the innovation dollars. (Also any 1981 SBA dollars.)

I have a 1 dollars coin and on both sides of the coin has like a little extra meteral on the top of both sides but in different places. So the sids don't match up together

Picked up a single roll of small dollars at a branch that usually don't care rolls, it had Andrew Jackson printed on the roll from a place in Harrisburg, PA, both ends were 2008 Andrew Jackson, no mint listed, I did not open it, guessing Philly, so I got an UNC roll. Funny parts is a few weeks ago I got 11 Andrew Jacksons from a teller drawer at the same branch a few weeks ago.

Don't worry so much about the Canadian dollar coins. It shouldn't be long before they are worth more than ours! I've got 8 so far but also lots of great stuff from $ boxes. I find lots of Canadian nickels in rolls here in Michigan. I have about 7 rolls saved up.

So those 2009 through 2011 Native American dollars are not NIFC. You'll eventually find a bunch of them. I find them all the time, especially 2009.
