The Panasonic 820 is known for it's 4K UHD playback only. Its app services isn't that great. I would stick with your built in TV apps or an Amazon 4K Firestick. I have an 820 myself but I only use it for 4K UHD, blu-ray, and DVD playback. That's what it was designed for.

Yeah me too, though I think if Panasonic is going to have these apps at all they should be implemented correctly. Lazy and stupid.

I think they assume its self explanatory, if you've paused it, they assume you'll press play to resume without being instructed 👍🏻

@@pdgable I can't answer that sorry but i can say ive had the same experience, if you pause to long on my ub450 it goes onto screen saver mode and when you press play it sometimes starts at the beginning again, Sometimes i think they'd be better adopting the motto if its not broken don't fix it, But unfortunately these companies have to churn put new products each year and change things that don't need it 👍🏻

I seen this is two years old, I'm sure by now you figured it out. You need to select the type of TV you have. For me is an OLED. With all do respect, I would not bother with apps. This player is for UHD 4K disc, It's awesome!

You could've stopped the dryer temporarily until you were finished making the video. That was an option.

Yeah there's some weird quirks it looks like for sure. I plan to just use this for disc playback. I'll just use my TV or nvidia shield for app playback.

I’m not crazy about this players upscaling ... I have it connected to a Sony 65A8G and I found it challenging to figure out how to turn off 820’s upscaling and let the TV do it.

The quality of a TV has a lot to do with the 4K upscaling as well, not only the Blu-ray player.

It's yo prevent burn-in with stagnant text maybe? But the logo is too do who knows. Firmware could fix it.

Why you would care about how your UHD Blu-ray player's apps perform when you have an apple TV right next to it is mind boggling. Also, like previously said, the player is known for its disc playback. Lastly, I don't know why it has to be explained to you that the opposite of stop is play. The only interesting thing in this video is that the amazon app ties Atmos support to the Dolby Vision setting.

Well at least you found one thing to be interesting! I made the video for the people who actually use the internet apps on the player. There has got to be a handful of people who actually wonder about some of the weird “features” of this player. Thanks for watching

Does anyone know how to turn off the standby mode? If I pause for 5mins it turns off the player. Then I have to go through all those privacy bullshit all over again. Last night it turned of my player in the middle of watching a movie. its said standby mode like WTF. Searched instruction manual and says nothing. google gives me nothing.

I don’t think there is a way. It is not 5 minutes though. I think it is 30 minutes. Either way, it is pretty dumb

What about turning on dolby vision to get dolby atmos for playing a disc? Or is this just weird glitch with the apps? I cannot seem to get dolby atmos activated playing 4k dolby atmos discs.

I have not had that happen. Dolby Atmos always works with disks. Make sure you don’t have the secondary audio turned on. It defaults to yes for some reason and that will turn off Atmos

I did not do this. I only had mine for 6 months. To me the HDR or Dobly Vision is nt all that great on a Sony Oled

i would not pay what i paid for my UB820 if i did not have the money for a good 4K OLED which can run the apps i need... I will allways make sure my TV is top notch b4 i upgrade the other stuff... But hey its probably just me right ? i mean why would i pay 1/4 of what an OLED cost for a 4K BD player if i dont have the OLED ! Just get an UB420 or 450 instead, and a prober TV OLED or MicroLED b4 going out buying an expencive 4KBD player.

Mine just totally failed playing a brand new 4K The Shining, It did the same thing on the Blu-ray Nobody. Definitely a buggy product.

Why would you need instructions to press play when you've stopped the disc? What else would you press to play the disc? Obviously you know you've stopped the disc. You can either play the disc, go to a menu or power off. If you need instructions on what to press, something is wrong. When you want to stop a disc, do you need instructions telling you to press stop? 🤦🏼This is the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard. 💯

can you prevent the UB820 Blu-Ray Player from showing black bars on the TV screen when the same DVD does not show black bars when played on a DVD player ?

Sounds like you have the DVD player display zoomed in on your TV and not on the UB820. See if your TV allows zooming in on HDMI. Some TVs do not allow this.

Who uses a DVD player as a streamer in this day in age with so many better streaming devices out there including most new TV's built in apps??? If a user who buys a $500 DVD player as a streamer and this is the audience you are trying to reach maybe this is why you only have 297 subscribers after a year has passed after this review. You also need to hold your camera steady while we are watching your vid or it makes one nauseated with all the movement 🤮. And if you need instructions to tell you to press "play" after you pressed stop maybe you should not be trusted with that Panny 820 remote in your hand 🤪
