Cells at Work! Code Black is set in a "black" environment of a body suffering an unhealthy lifestyle. The story follows the anthropomorphic cells struggling to maintain the body.

One of the things I like about this anime and its predecessor is that they desperately try to convince us that these aren't just mindless depictions of our cells; these are actual people with lives and personalities that are supposed to symbolize our cells. Makes you feel like our cells are living their lives exactly like how we would.

I have to say...it changes your way of thinking a bit. It is easier to understand how things work if you can relate. We all get told about how certain things are bad for our body and how they can affect us, but if you only get served scientific terms etc, it just doesn't really get the message through imo. In Code Black specifically how they show the effects on our body in this way, it makes you relate to the cells and everything, so you start thinking about...well if this affects this body like that...what the hell am I doing to my cells?! I used to scratch off the crust on wounds before they heal properly...Then I saw the platelets...working their tiny asses off to fix the wounds and I thought...hmmm imagine I scratch that off and blood flows again...first erythrocytes vanish into nothing and the platelets are going in fixing it so nobody else falls out...what kind of monster am I?! And I honestly started doing it way less than before...still have that habit though, but as soon as I start I imagining what is going on in my body right now...

So like... everything in these shows is supposed to symbolize something actually happening inside a human body, right? So what does it mean when red blood cells don't carry oxygen or nutrients around the body?
