I am from Germany and my gynecologist actually recommended Vitex (German: Mönchspfeffer) to a friend who was not ovulating after quitting the pill and I heard the same from many friends who had issues with hormonal imbalances or irregular cycles. I personally took the pill (okay actually almost all kinds of birth control pills on the market) for about 15 Years, since I was 14 when the doctors prescribed it to me because of my severe acne. Since i went off the pill over 1,5 years ago I have the worst problems. Despite the slow return of my acne (mainly on my back, where i've never ever had problems before) my main problem is a massive hair loss, which i think is quite normal for half a year or so after stopping the pill - but definetely not for that long period of time. Aditionally i have a lot of hair growth on my face and prolonged cycles. All this together made me think that i probably suffer from PCOS. So after all gynecoologists and dermatologists suggested to me that the only solution to get rid off these problems is the return to the pill - no matter if my problem is called PCOS or whatever - i decided to consult an endocrinologist. The result was, that from the hormones in my blood, thyroid, testosterone, Vitamin D... etc. there is no evidence for PCOS. I was desperate cause i thought after all this endless and helpless consultations of dermatologists and gyneocologists that i finally found the key to my problem. No I have to wait for my next cycle to make an additional test for adrenogenital syndrome which might cause my problems. All in all i am a nerveous wreck and after i am left with 1/3 (if at all) of my hair i really cosider going back on the pill and quit this story, although my initial plan was to get rid of this artificial hormones :( Anyway after my research if found some evidence, that Vitex can amplify hair loss and hormonal acne - that's why I personally have never tried it.

Hey ❤️ Im a girl who's hormones are very imbalanced, I was told I have pcos and the doctors were ALWAYS basically forcing the pill on me which I'm a natural type of girl I don't like that, I've been battling with this for years , and for the last 5 months I haven't been able to get my period, and i haven't been able to conceive in the last two years, I am a little over weight which I know that is one reason for the imbalance , but back to the pill, I would always just ignore what the doctors tell me until recently I was like whatever I can try them, but now that I have them I'm scared to take them , I REALLY don't want too, do you recommend me taking them for a while just do my hormones will have a little balance and stop then try to get my body to balance them by themselves or try other natural ways to and forget the pill, thanks ❤️

The birth control pill does nothing else but mask the problem, so that when you come off it one day, the issue will be even greater than before. It definitely doesn't balance hormones. Quite the opposite. But of course I'm not a doctor, I can't tell you what to do or give you personal advice. One thing I can recommend though is checking your thyroid. Low thyroid messes up all the hormones, causes infertility, irregular periods heavy periods, endometriosis, and so many other things. So many women suffer needlessly because their thyroid is low and they don't know it. xx

+Green Life In Dublin Oh no, I'm so sorry you had to go through it! 😥 To be honest, hair loss was also one of my side effects of quitting the pill, but luckily I had lots of hair, so it wasn't that visible. I reckon I also lost around 40-50% of my hair during the first three years. I can feel it slowly thickening up now, but it's going to take ages. 💖

I’ve recently read a book called take charge of your fertility. It’s says in the book that a common reason why women can’t conceive is due to being unaware of when they’re ovulating. Everyone assumes it’s 14 days after your period but it differs from one woman to the next. The book also mentions that keeping track of waking temperatures could help hone in on when you do ovulate. I highly recommend this book so much info. I’m not saying this is definitely it but maybe reading this book helps you open your eyes to the reproductive system...

Options are quite limited while you're pregnant, but make sure your progesterone levels are good. And after the baby is born, definitely keep an eye on your hormone levels and address them with herbs if necessary, things like Vitex, shatavari, maca, etc.

Hi Vita, I tried the bc patch in December 2019 for one month and it made me feel awful so I stopped it. I have had my periods as normal since then, however around February I noticed my skin breaking out and my hair started to fall. We are now in June and my skin is awful and my hair is still falling. Can trying contraception for a month cause this? I had my blood tests done recently and my LH,FSH, testosterone and estrogen came back normal. However I got told that I’m highly deficient in iron, vitamin D and folic acid so I’ve been given supplements for all these. Been taking the supplements for a month now and it’s not changed my acne or hair loss at all. I’m just not sure if the patch can cause all of these issues? please please respond! I’m suffering from severe depression due to all of these issues and I don’t want to go on the antidepressants that my doctor keeps pushing on me.

Contraceptive conception could cause symptoms like this, even after a short time. It does take the body a lot of time to regain the balance. It could have also affected your thyroid function, it could have disrupted your gut bacteria balance. Hair mineral analysis test could also be very helpful, it would show if you're deficient or have too much of anything.

I just came off birth control (was on it for 2 years for irregular periods) and started vitex. The first month on vitex was amazing, i got instant benefits and my period was regular. The second month and third month my period only lasted 1 day and this month it never came. Is this normal?
@Vitalivesfree
@Vitalivesfree 7 жыл бұрын
It could be just because you came off the pill. It takes a while for periods to normalise But it could also be Vitex. I spent a lot of time reading through forums and women's experiences. I read quite a few similar to yours, where periods disappeared for a couple of months while Vitex was sorting out the hormones. I'd probably just wait and see what happens with the next period or two. If it still doesn't normalise, then it's probably a good idea to investigate further, starting from checking the levels of your hormones. Remember, I'm not a doctor and I'm not giving you medical advice. It's just what I would do myself. xx

Thank you for these tips! I've been on HBC for 4 years. I don't have any sex drive, I feel depressed, I'm tired of being dependent on the pills. My dream is to wean off birth control without breakouts! Did you personally manage to totally avoid breakouts using these tips?
@Vitalivesfree
@Vitalivesfree 5 жыл бұрын
When I quit the pill 6 years ago, I wasn't aware of these tips yet, so it wasn't easy for me. However, at that time my skin was breaking out all the time, with the pill or without. I wouldn't say that quitting the pill made any difference. But now that I know there are so many ways to help yourself, I believe it's possible to avoid major breakouts when getting off the pill. Good luck!

I think a lot of doctors just aren't open to any kind of change. They think what they learned has got to be the only way and that natural kinds of treatment are some mumbo jumbo that won't work anyway. Also, so many cases are generalized and just not looked into further because "you don't fall into all the criteria". This has happened to me so often and I cannot understand how someone who's profession it is to help people can be so ignorant to the actual underlying problem
@Vitalivesfree
@Vitalivesfree 8 жыл бұрын
Most doctors and scientists have something I call "God Syndrome". :-) When you spend so many years studying (not learning, there's a major difference there), it's easy to fall into the trap of thinking that you know more than other people and that your knowledge is somehow superior, that you have all the answers, etc. It's sad but true. In reality, the more you learn, the more you understand how little science actually knows about the human body. There are still so many things that we don't understand. xx

Would using a biodentical progesterone cream have the same effects on the body? Would these suggestions help balance hormones after a hysterectomy ?
@Vitalivesfree
@Vitalivesfree 8 жыл бұрын
+Kari Quick Yes, Vitex can help after hysterectomy. In fact, if you Google it, there are tons of hysterectomy sites and forums talking about it. It seems to be one of the most popular treatments. Bioidentical progesterone would have a similar effect I suppose but there is some controversy around it, that's why I didn't mention it. Vitex seems to be a safer choice, but you might need both. Of course I must remind you that this is not medical advice. xx

Stress reduction techniques (gentle exercise and meditation, deep breathing, etc.), some kind of a herb to support hormonal balance (Vitex is probably best after the pill but not for everyone), magnesium, plus some zinc and copper. These are the ones I would go for first.
