Exactly. Remember you gave your notice for whatever reason. If you decided to stay longer and for a little more money you have now targeted yourself for layoff or a firing in the future. You made a decision to leave-you stick with it.

There is no need to put drama into leaving a job. I just gave my notice to my manager last week after a month on the job. The commute itself was wearing thin on me where I though I could handle it. I did not give any fancy explanations only that I was giving my two week notice. I was in my 90 day probationary period anyway. I wrote up a simple resignation letter saying I was leaving for personal reasons, that I apologized for causing management difficulty because now they have to start the search for a replacement again, but added thanks for a positive experience. I stated what my last day would be and that was it. Lasted all but maybe 5-10 minutes. You NEVER tell co-workers you are leaving until you speak with your supervisor or manager FIRST. Even then you don't mention it until the subject is brought up to you by others. Even then you don't owe anyone any explanations. I've always remembered what my high school business teach told us when we decide to leave a job for another one. You leave as quietly as you came. My first staff meeting since my resignation is this coming Tuesday so I don't know if my manager will inform co-workers after that, but I will let him decide that.

I would quickly cut them off, and say I'm just not a good fit for this job. After a few days of not telling them my business they completely ignored me and it was blissful silence until I left. I am not sure why resignation is framed as negative in this video. It is great if one is leaving because the job condition was poor, office politics was too toxic, nepotism was rampant, opportunity to grow was minimal. Shouldn't it just say , 'thank you for the opportunities' , hand in the resignation and say good bye?

Got hired as an apprentice electrician, but I think because I’m a female, they keep me in the office. They lied and told me that apprentices for their first year stay in the office and learn how it works before going out. So not true. I’m sacrificing a years worth of learning for sitting on my ass for 8 hours watching some guy type on the computer. Also, there was a new hire after me who went on the job field the day after. The only time he was in the office was for his interview. My boss hates wasting his time, little does he know I’m the same way. So... I left.

Im working in a place where people are fantastic, and they gave me so much opportunity, but I feel the pressure for always have the right answer, I cant miss one day without justify myself. I suppose it depends on why you're leaving, variables involved, etc., but advice given to me when I asked this same question was, 'No.' It's ultimately your personal decision to leave and technically none of their business. If pressed, (& if you are eager to bow out gracefully) you can respectfully say that you prefer to withhold that information until all details have been completely finalized with your new employer.

bs. Put as much energy into your resignation as they would if they were the ones firing you. Would they give you a two week notice before firing you? If the answer’s no, then you don’t owe them a two week notice. Doesn’t mean you curse them out or anything but in my experience this hypothetical where you do everything right on exit and they give you a hand when you’re down is the opposite of how corporate America works. Don’t let drones confuse you into acting against your own interests.
