I was thinking the same thing, then I searched for it and in fact both answers are correct because in a manufacturer's logic, a 1GB memory drive contains 1000MB but in computer logic, as it only comprehends stuff in a binary base, you would need 1024MB to have 1GB.

Wrong, GiB (Gibi bytes) = 1024 MiB, GB (Giga bytes) = 1000 MB. Blame the SI not me, I hate it too but Carlos was right.

The decimal value is 1000. Both this and 1024 are valid.

Actually he's right, 1 GB = 1000 MB, but 1GiB = 1024 MiB. The SI fucked things up by making a difference but standardized it to the same 1000 units of evey other measures. So the 1024 derived from binary multiplier gets the "bi" in between, and the 1000 corresponds to the actual SI units (hence hard drives and storage media get marketed with one unit and the other is presented by Windows, those tricky bastards kniw what they are doing). For the record: b = bit B = byte KiB = kibi byte KB = kilo byte MB = mega byte MiB = mebi byte GiB = gibi byte GB = giga byte And so on... And no, GB and Gb are not the same, one is giga byte (1000 mega bytes) and the other is giga bit (1000 mega bits), BIG DIFFERENCE! Also mb or gb = nothing! You HAVE TO be case sensitive regarding these kind of measurements to avoid confusion. Source: SI, also I'm a network engineer and system administrator, literally deal with this kind of things for a living. Now you know a little more on why storage is always marketed like that and seems to be always "below" the actual capacity. Also internet providers maket their bandwidth using Mega bits or Giga bits, that's also why you get around 120 megabyte per second when you pay your internet of 1 Gb (giga bit), which is 1/8th of a giga byte.
