Two things that were a little off: The highest elevation official capital in the world is Quito, Ecuador -- La Paz is not the official capital of Bolivia, it is an administrative center while Sucre is the official capital. Tokyo is largest in population only if you count the entire metro area -- Shanghai is nearly twice the population of Tokyo if we count only the cities proper.

I missed 36. Most beautiful place I've been is Valdez, Alaska. Lived there for several months before moving to Anchorage then back to Ft Myers Florida to have my daughter. Valdez is where the Alaska pipeline ends. It is completely surrounded by mountains which are extremely beautiful in winter. Only 3 ways in and out. Boat, single road or helicopter/small plane. When I lived there in 1977 there were only 200 people. And not much room for more. Another thing I loved about Valdez is that in Alaska the wind is what's cold. In Valdez I wore a short sleeve shirt, maternity pants and snow boots. Even with 22' of snow. Anchorage is all open so it's always freezing there. My first job was in Anchorage.

You actually live next door to one of the nicest places I have visited, I mentioned Sanibel Island in my comments above, 42 years ago I was there, loved the place. Living in the north of England, where we are used to cold and rainy weather, not sure about your fav place in Alaska, sounds pretty cold up there in the winter, but I would imagine the summer would be fantastic time for an Englishman to visit Alaska. I have been following a Dutch vlogger on you tube that travels the world on a motorbike and really enjoyed her final destination which was Alaska, it does look like somewhere I would have loved to visit in my younger days. ps if your interested in the vlogger, she will definitely bring some good memories back to you of Alaska just google, Itchy Boots, season 6 Ecuador to Alaska. I enjoyed her journey on the Dalton highway to Wiseman, and then on to Prudhoe bay.

@@greenup9913 Alaska is weird in a way. If it's surrounded by mountains it isn't cold. Even in super deep snow, like Valdez is. When I was there it was winter. Snow everywhere. But I walked around in pants, short sleeve shirt and snow boots. I Anchorage however it's all open so it's freezing. My first job was a full service gas station attendant the graveyard shift. I went to work in long johns, turtleneck shirt, jacket, coat, 2 pairs of jeans, 2 sets of socks, snow boots and 2 pairs of gloves.try pumping gas, checking fluids and cleaning windshields with all that on 😂. It wasn't easy but I did it. I moved to Memphis Tennessee 3 years ago to be with my daughter and grandkids. My health was failing and no one to help me. She's now my caregiver.

Alaska is the only state I haven't been to.. The two things that come to mind when I think about Valdez are the earthquake in 1964 and the oil spill. I read a book about the earthquake and it had to be the most horrible thing ever. Now I'm in Florida and my favorite place in the USA used to be Venice, Florida. I found lots of nice sharks' teeth and red coral there. But since they rebuilt the beach to address the erosion problem, it seems the sharks' teeth disappeared underneath it all. I think I may have seen Elvis there, too, back in the old days! Now, Key West is my favorite place in the USA, and the drive from Key Largo to Key West. We used to go there quite a lot but the Keys took a terrible hit by Hurricane Irma. We went down a year after the hurricane noticed that a lot of the smaller islands were literally raked clean of anything that may have been there prior to Irma. Many of the old-timers left after Irma. I haven't been down since C19 and fear that more things changed after that and not necessarily for the better. For one thing, there is no more off season anymore and things have become more expensive year 'round. I feel some things are best just being left alone, and the way they were.

Now we also have Southern, for some reason (symmetry?) , even in though in my times, it was just southern parts of the three oceans ). And in my country and my language we had a difference between a continent (ethno-socio-cultural and biological complex) and a landmass (piece of the Earth's crust) and had to learn the differences, for example, Eurasia was considered one landmass, but two continents, while Americas were two landmasses, but one continent, so in total there were the same number of continents and landmasses. Antarctics was not considered a continent, because no one lived there, so no specific nature or culture.

I'm a 62 year old man from Antwerp-Belgium. Education in Belgium used to be good, my score was 81/100. Few answers were wrong due to lack of time for giving an answer. (I'm getting older ...) Good quiz, thanks.

Really enjoyed this quiz, especially since I knew most of the answers. I've enjoyed living in the Pacific Islands, on Niue and the Cook Islands, but I love it where I live now on the West Coast of the South Island of New Zealand. The climate suits me better here, and there's plenty of wilderness in every direction.

88/100, pretty good for me. I just guessed a lot and most times it worked. Congrats to the people who got a high score. I hope you all have a great day! P.S. I guessed like a lot of times. Only when im sure are the capitals, flags, basically every category but only a couple questions in that category.

Got exactly 70/100, and I think it’s pretty good, considering I don’t have any geographical knowledge besides school program and I haven’t been anywhere besides Kaliningrad (my hometown), some Russian cities, Poland, Germany and Baltic countries ahahah. Questions were rather interesting, which is cool. Thank you for this quiz! Edit: the most beautiful place I’ve ever been to is definitely St. Petersburg, it’s just gorgeous. But again, I haven’t visited that many places to begin with 😅

I had thought my geography was pretty good so I was disappointed to get nine questions wrong, although like some others here I think some of the questions were ambiguous... largest capital city for example. I was however quite pleased that a few of the questions where the answer wasn't in my current knowledge set (ie. I had never consciously thought about this before) could be rapidly worked out from my general geographical and geological knowledge - the world's warmest and shallowest oceans for example. In general I take a 'big picture' approach to geography, as I do towards the subject I used to teach (history), and I think it's more important to know that Australia is the world's driest continent than to remember which despotic little Gulf statelet has built the world's tallest phallic symbol.

95/100 feels ok... I'm so thankful I had a great geography teacher in 7th to 9th grade (Nanna-Lisa Gilén) in Falun, Sweden. That was over 40 years ago.
@deepowls Жыл бұрын
You had geography in 7th, 8th, and 9th grade? As someone from the US, that seems like a lot. I only had geography in 7th grade as part of Social Studies. We covered US states, state capitals, North American and European countries and capitals...and about 10 other world capitals. That was about it. Some people in the US take a course in high school, but I only had what geography came with US & European History. That said, I only missed 2 questions¹ because I'm self-taught and pickup trivia fairly easily. Being a history dork helps, but the only Swedish history I ever covered in school was Gustavus Adolphus and Charles XII...and all of that was outside Sweden. Any Swedish geography knowledge I have is from outside school. ---- ¹ I second guessed myself on the Rainbow Nation. I thought the Gobi Desert was bigger than the Arabian. I'm much better at political geography involving countries than deserts, mountains, rivers, etc.

Been to London and England a number of times. Furthest East I've been is Zell Am See, Austria. North - Edinburgh, Scotland. South - Key West, Florida. West - somewhere in Los Angeles (cuz I guess it cuts in to the East as you go South. So I think Tijuana, Mexico is further East than most of L.A.).

I was horrified to only score 85! If I would just 🛑stop🛑 second guessing myself, it would have been 94, which really irks me. My first thoughts are more reliable than my ruminations! So many beautiful lakes, waterfalls, and islands out there. Would also love to see the baobob trees in Madagascar (I got that one right 👍). We all need to realize what a precious planet we are blessed to inhabit! I pray 🙏 many more of us will be concerned about her and decide to develop new ways for us all to respect, live in harmony with, and reverse the damage we have foolishly and needlessly done to her in the name of avarice and ignorance. AMEN! Good post, very entertaining,5⭐

There are lots of baobabs on mainland Africa, in the tropical belt, too. I've seen them in the northern part of S.Africa, in Zimbabwe and in Uganda. I don't know about the western side (like Angola) and don't remember if I saw any in Tanzania or Kenya, but a Google search would tell you. I like their spring/summer look, as they look so very naked without leaves!

96/100 Enjoyed the quiz thank you. But then I like geography, but have a quiz about botany, art or popular music, suspect I would struggle to get 10/100. Incidentally the Lake Michigan/Huron complex is considered by limnologists to be one single lake (they are connected by a 'straight' of 4 miles wide, and both 'lakes' are at the same level) which has a surface area greater than Superior.

They have to convey this knowledge to geography teachers and place it into textbooks then, because we all learnt that Lake Superior has the biggest area among the Great Lakes, and there are 5 Great Lakes, not 4 out there.
