Salamun alaykum brother. Thank for the lectures. I learn a lot from them. I have a question for you please. What to do if new husband refuses to pay mahar. When the wedding took place he said he would pay but now he is saying he won’t pay. Now what is my situation and what shall I do. Thank you so much. Apology for the late response, let me open this discussion with the verse 17;70 وَلَقَدْ كَرَّمْنَا بَنِىٓ ءَادَمَ And certainly, وَلَقَدْ We (Quranic union of Federation) have honored كَرَّمْنَا the architecture of the intelligent leadership بَنِىٓ ءَادَمَ Therefore, according to the Quran every human (including wife and husband) is equally honorable in the sight of the Quranic laws regardless gender, race, color, religion, language and nationality. The term Mahar is non-Quranic word, and it is insult of the wife. It is kind of buying and selling or religious and social prostitution. In Middle East and in Afghanistan husband buys his spouse in the from of sexual slavery and as well maid of the house. In India and Pakistan wife must bring the Jaheez that is another curse and humiliation for honorable wife. These kinds of social and religious rituals have caused mayhem in our society and has degraded honorable female spouse in both cases . However, if wife and husband agreed upon certain terms and condition before marriage with love and freedom both must honor that commitment verse 5;1 يا أَيُّهَا الَّذينَ آمَنوا أَوفوا بِالعُقودِ ۚ Those who are actively involve in the peace and prosperity mission يا أَيُّهَا الَّذينَ آمَنوا, must honor their agreements or obligations أَوفوا بِالعُقودِ So, if husband or wife have made some commitments in written or in verbal before marriage, both must honor for the peace or of the unit cell and as well as for the bright future of their generations. I may further add that the Quran has not used the terms Tallaq طلاق or Nikah نكاح for wedding or for divorce or for other non-Quranic rituals. For sound and prosperous future both spouses make companionship through marriage, independently in accordance with your government laws of marriage with the consult of your elders and absolutely without the involvement of the religious rituals and as well as with out the clergy mambo jumbo
