I don't get it either. This dude is putting out gold. This album was like playing with his prey before murking it. There are other modern, profound rappers still out there (Billy Woods), but there just isn't the same personality put into it. Reminds me of how visceral and vunerable Mac Miller would be on some of his darkest tracks, but with a twist of poetry and soul.

ro talk is underwhelming? interesting, i found the track to be one of best on the whole lp. granted, it doesn't take many risks and isn't the most experimental cut on the album, but i don't think it's necessary at this point of the album. i love how the sound of the beat has this sense of wrapping the album up with those gorgeous strings and these very clean and hard-hitting drums. lowkey the hardest beat and moment on the whole lp + it just fits perfectly in the tracklisting
@maxspencerkarinen64633 жыл бұрын
after listening to this album pretty consistently for a year, ro talk went from one of my least favourite tracks to my absolute favourite. This whole album is really easy to appreciate after a while, the wordplay and production grows on you with every listen. It kind of sucks that music reviewers need to be on the cutting edge and giving opinions as fast as possible to be successful.

@@maxspencerkarinen6463 unfortunately, that's just the way the business works. i fully agree with you, the fast paced nature of the music industry doesn't really leave space for growing or the durability of an album. it's the price to pay for the evolution of music, starting of as a luxury product becoming an everyday good. that being said, i respect anthony's opinion (he might still not like ro talk down to the song itself and that's fine). then again, ro talk still fucking slaps :)

I mean aren't most rappers cocky? I understand what you mean because rory puts himself on a philosophical high horse as opposed to saying I'm the best to ever do it. I also think he approaches his art for himself more than how people react to it. Pretty sure why he had a problem with fantano. Experimentation is a the forefront, so if you don't enjoy it just keep it moving. His music has evolved over the years. Last, who else can rap like this?

The outro is not a Pharaoh Sanders cover - it’s a Leon Thomas cover from his album “Spirits Known & Unknown”. Rory played the track on one of the first Ruby Yacht Radio episodes in 2015/16. I teared up hearing him do his own version of the track because of the significance of Thomas’ music in my life after connecting deeply with his sound - but Rory’s version is sensitive to the original & I’d consider it tonally identical to the original. To be at one with art & life & to find a way are the key themes of this album - this outro perfectly ties it all together in an incredibly meaningful way. Peace to the rubaiyat.
