When light bulbs were dim yellow, no internet, nintendo 64 xbox and ps2, straight haircut, everyone wears blue jeans, grasshppper catching, hmong gangster was getting bad, walking around the neighborhood freely, gum was popular, we all went to the park, ice cream truck was a thing, yugioh & pokemon cards trading & playing, play with sticks and dirt, card game popularity spread, the age of falling in love for the 1st time, soccer was fun, family gathering were so fun being with your cousins as a kid, trying some spicy hmong food for the first time, learning to make noodle and eggs, etc. Now the modern world is so advanced, time runs by faster now with technology on our face. This song will always remind me of how much I miss my youth... We grew up on the generation that saw then biggest transition in modern technology. Back then was all about feels.

Its true, this song is about having hmong pride. But if I remember correctly during the time of this song's release, there were alot of hmong gangs causing violence within the community. This song's message was to remind the hmong people that we should stop hating each other and remember where we came from. Thus the phrase "drop the whole shit" has literal meaning. Drop the gangster act, stop the violence on your own hmong people and just become one people.

Yeah. I grew up in California in the 80s and 90s. Sacramento, Stockton, Merced, Fresno was freaking crazy in those days. The gang violence was unreal. I used to visit my cousin during every Fresno New Year every year and every night or other night someone was getting killed, especially drive by shooting.

dude, this song I heard back in 2001 or 2002. heard it before it went out...oh to answer the question about "doing more research"...the thing was is that research was done but some info had to be altered...especially the shaman stuff...and plus the reason they had this song in the movie is b/c one of the members from RARE plays in the movie. He's the one who talks about the gran torino... and I know majority of the peeps in the movie expect for the leads
