2020年，八王子市的故事被認定為日本遺產。這在日本是第88個，而在東京都卻是唯一的一個。
這個故事的名字叫做「靈氣滿山 高尾山 -人們的祈禱 編織出的桑都物語-」。
八王子以養蠶紡織業而繁榮，因而被稱之為「桑都」。
而被認定為日本遺產的這個故事，則是在敘述關於八王子這個城市的歷史。從戰國時代（15-17C）時，武將「北条氏照」成為「滝山城」以及「八王子城」的城主後，治理此地開始，一直敘述到現在，未來與高尾山的所有關聯。

Reki-Manzan Takaosan - The Story of Mulberry city Woven by Locals’ Prayers -.
In 2020, the story of Hachioji City became the 88th in Japan and the only one in Tokyo to be designated as a Japan Heritage.
The title of the designated story is “Reki-Manzan Takaosan - The Story of Mulberry city Woven by Locals’ Prayers -“. Hachioji was called “Soto(Mulberry City)” because of its flourishing silk cultivation and fabrics.
This certified story tells the history of the city of Hachioji from Sengoku period (15-17C), when the warlord Hojo Ujiteru ruled the area as a lord of Takiyama Castle and Hachioji Castle, to the present and future, through connection with Mt. Takao.
