The pension in Japan is 196,000¥ a month. This would only cover rent for a 1 bed apartment, gas, electricity, water, phone, and food. For a reasonable standard of living, he has to work.

We need to give serious thought to how Japan can provide a secure retirement environment.

To be honest. It is expensive of $4.84 as street food.I am in Shanghai and there is similar ramen of street food.It is around $2 here even cheaper under $2 dollar.Anyway.I believe it is very very delicious as I tried street food ramen as well when I was in Japan several years ago.

The cost of living is very different between US, China and Japan. The quality, selection and availability are also very different. Where I live now, the best ramen is made from a package and costs $0.25, adding eggs, chashu , scallion, shitake mushrooms, sprouts and peppers costs extra. From my persepctive, $4.84 is cheap. But I remember eating street food while working in Shenzhen and Suzhou and have seen much lower prices. Hong Kong was like eating in New York City - expensive but so much better! I miss HK.
