Finally a piano teacher that helps break down the method to improvisation in simple to follow patterns that does not scare newbies. Not only was this educative, also entertaining, practical and gave me alot more confidence on improvising with the piano A Grip and E Grip method. Many thanks Jonny. Absolute Legend 🔥 💯 🔥 💯

Another comment as I listen to this lesson…it’s exactly what I’ve been looking for and would love to view one like this emphasis on slow blues style…aka one handed left hand chords with right hand runs and fills etc.🎹❤️

That is a great lesson. Not only does it unlock some potential to play soul music, but hey, I've been using these rootless voicings all over the place in standards and jazz tunes. Two questions on the key signature though. I understand why you say it's in C and it feels like C. However, I'd like to understand the function of the D13. It's not the 2 of the C as it's major. So is it like a secondary dominant to have a feel of 2 5 1 but remaining in the "major soul" feeling? As well, I find interesting the C6/9 to Ealt to Am, is it another variation from a minor 2 5 1, with C6/9 as a substitute to B minor?

I see many R&B chords tutorials on youtube. I'm curious how many of the tutors actually produce R&B songs. Because this is such an amazing skill and if I could play like this, I would produce one song every week just like Viper the Rapper

What do you mean by crunchy?
@gtrdoc911
@gtrdoc911 10 ай бұрын
Usually he refers to “crunchy” when the chord involves 2 notes played a semitone apart such as in the C13 voicing where in the middle you have notes A and B flat. This creates a slightly dissonant or “crunchy” sound.

Another great lesson! But telling a beginner to “start” here might cause cerebral hemorrhaging. I’ve been playing self taught piano about 10 years. I understand everything you’re talking about but executing it would involve a few months of serious practice!

You'd look at this guy and think he would serve you a vegan latte at Starbucks, but when he sits down at the piano, he makes music producers like Michael J. Powell, George Duke, Stanley Clarke, and Nat Adderley, Jr. want to give him his flowers while he's still alive to enjoy them!!
