Great job on this video. An amazing amount of work went into doing this. One thing to point out. The extensions are called 9ths, 11ths, and 13ths because that implies there is a 7th in the chord. If there is no 7th, you would call them a 2nd, 4th, or 6th. I know in theory they are very similar, but if I see a C9 chord, I know to include a Bb. If I see a Cadd2, I know there is no 7th in the chord.
@HuiyenManton9 ай бұрын
Ahh...thanks for reminding me why they are 9th, 11th, 13th or 2nd, 4th and 6th 😊

@dr.rajarshiraha66279 ай бұрын
I'm sorry, but what in the world is Cadd2? '-'
@keithsamuels76459 ай бұрын
@@dr.rajarshiraha6627It is just adding a 2nd to a chord. There are different ways of writing it as far as notation goes. So the C chord would have the notes CDEG.
I stumbled upon this and thought it will just be like many other such videos where everything starts super simple and then you get totally lost and get no value from it. But this was different, systematically, step by step, things you can try. Thanks a lot for very good education.

I’ve been playing for almost three years now. I was self-taught for two years and took lessons on and off for about a year. The inversions are much more challenging for me than the video's 6, 7, and 8 levels. Playing primarily by ear and being self-taught, 7th chords and extensions were some of the first chords I learned. Inversions, however, are challenging for me for some reason. It's not the concept of them but using them in cadences, for example, that makes my brain explode. Have you seen this with any of your other students?

You building up the levels and different components made me see clearly on how I could improve past triad + inversions in the LH and the melody in the right hand or for accompanying, 1-5 shells/octaves in the LH and triads + inversions in the RH. I didn’t know about the whole: incorporating the melody into the RH with chords. That’s so cool and I can finally see it clearly! :))

I just called it adding pazazz 😂😂😂 but this literally spelt everything out clear and concise I'll be looking at changing up the way I use my chords throughout a song. I know 7th chords were only touched on but you've got so many variations there and I had no idea the 9th and 11th chords were the same as a Sus2 and Sus4 (usually played on guitar) I call them the dreamy chords 😂 the base note to triad jump chords I call cowboy chords. They seem to be used in country and western a lot. Helps me work it out by tone.

I think the most important thing is to know the inversion of the used chords and the melody of the song and that in best case without looking on the keyboard. Is there a exercise that trains all mayor, minor and diminish chords in all keys? A kind of master exercise so that you can support the easily. When my mother heard a melody, she could immediately add chords to it. I've been trying to do this for years and I'm afraid I'll have to practice for a while before I can do it. Or is there a shortcut. Thank you for your super great video!

This is such a high quality video in terms of content, visuals and educational/didactic presentation. I teach myself virtual orchestral music production in the genre of filmmusic. On the face of it there's not much on comment with pop music of your playing examples but actually there is a lot that can be transferred. Playing bassnotes (not only root but 5ths and 3rds). The biggest thing are arpeggios. They're known as ostinatos in filmmusic, used as repeating rhythmic figures to drive a piece forward. They don't play always chord notes, bit mainly. Take for example Hans Zimmer's Batman theme or Chevaliers de Sangreal of the the Da Vinci Code soundtrack. Or John William's Duel of the Fates motif with the same ostinato over and over again. So iconic!
