As someone who has been listening to classical music my whole life, while also being a classical pianist I must say this guy is a genius. I have heard many great performers of the past (Richter, Horowitz, Rubinstein) and greats of our time like Trifonov, and Ivan does not pale in comparison to anybody. It is simply mind blowing what he can do at this age - it seems like word maturity doesn't apply to him, he is already playing at the level unatainable for most world class pianists. He is a world's treasure and i hope to hear him live one day!

Ivan is undoubtedly the pianist to bring Bach and Mozart to the 21st century world. Bach wrote for organ and harpsichord and gave very few directions in his keyboard works. The partnership between Ivan and a concert grand piano has made it possible to realise the richness, emotional breadth and brilliant colours of Bach's compositions in a way that is unequalled by any other living performer. I hope many others will find and enjoy this video. Thank you Ivan.

This is my third listening within a time-span of about twelve hours, and Eternity it knows no bounds as is what I am hearing here of the purest sound imaginable ever to be produced from a piano, as it is with all performances of Ivan's that I have heard. His is a sound uniquely transcendent. I have said it of Ivan's playing before, and at other platforms, that after a lifetime steeped in the art of music-making as testament to the Divine, and some fifty years his senior, I learn from him. I am here now to learn from him. That is no small thing, and something for which I will remain eternally grateful. And, this is as true of him as a composer as it is a performer, that it all stems from the one source.

@user-yuri_un

Considering the current international situation, it has become more difficult for Ivan to play outside of Russia. Although something is working out. For example, in the 2022-23 season the pianist performed in Germany (4 concerts), Italy (2 concerts), Austria, and Monaco. In April 2024, two concerts of Ivan Bessonov are planned in Germany (Munich and Mönchengladbach).

I confess I thought the numerous changes in tempo throughout the Sarabande ill-advised. It's a dance, after all, one with very strict timing, and that should be remembered by the performer. But Bessonov surely does have wonderful technical abilities.
@PhillipLWilcher
@PhillipLWilcher 4 жыл бұрын
@@thomasthompson6378 Oh, I never even gave a thought to that, none at least that should matter within the broader scheme of spiritual things, where the music of Bach likely aligns itself more to the voice God than any other, that the greater intent from Ivan was probably to transcend, and certainly any dogma as a determining factor towards interpretation. I do take your point and I can appreciate it from an academic stance that might well see artistry of such an order we hear here limited, when all that should matter is its expression of Love as a means to enhancing Life itself. That said, I would question whether or not any of the dance movements in any suite by Bach were actually meant to be danced to, as it has similarly been asked of any Waltz or Mazurka by Chopin. I think not. For me personally, of all the components that come together to make Music, melody alone is most sovereign. Ivan's interpretation of the Sarabande speaks to melody over rhythm, and to my way of thinking, this lends to it the sovereignty it needs to survive as a musical performance, as opposed to what would have been required if it were dance. I have never thought that Bach's Suites were actually meant to be danced to, rather that Bach used the form upon which to fashion something more than a dance, perhaps a musical statement in honour of dance. It is that the form itself served his creativity as it did as did the Waltz and Mazurka for Chopin. Anna Mansbridge, who is a highly respected authority on Baroque Dance, and I believe a specialist choreographer in that area, once had this to say in relation to the Cello Suites, which would surely apply equally to the keyboard suites: "Bach wrote these amazing works in the early 18th century, so he was just very, very innovative. It's fascinating what he did with the forms. I can imagine Bach sitting down and saying, for example, 'That's an allemande; now I'm going to make this an allemande too! I'm going to ignore the rules for writing an allemande and do something completely different. That's how his music sounds to me. I also think that Bach's Cello Suites are much more complicated than the Baroque music that was specifically written for dance, and that the tempos should be approached with this in mind." I believe too, that Anna Mansbridge has actually tried to dance to the Cello Suites, and found them not so conducive to the expression of dance itself as an art form as they were an expression of Music. And again, I would assume it be the same for the keyboard works. Without offending, the poetry evident in Ivan's interpretation of the Sarabande, and as evident as it also was in his earlier performance of Chopin's Mazurka in A minor Op. 17 No. 4, was such to engrave the score upon my heart in a way no purist could ever do. Across all the years I have lived and breathed Music, there has been no pianist who speaks so directly to my condition as does Ivan. There is something much more than technique at work in him. Something assuredly divine. Blessings!

The solo Bach at the beginning of this superb recital is as thrilling as the work of Glenn Gould; maybe even better. This young superstar appears to have been born already knowing the entire solo Bach piano literature. I'm a nonbeliever, but not when I listen and watch the slow movements. His pianism is of the most exquisite order. I'm pondering, how can a movement in a major key make me weep for its tragedy-tinged exultation? What he does cannot be taught. The details are incontestable, even the exact number of seconds in the pauses between movements. Just so. This is an artist. If indeed there's something godly in this world, then it's in the hands of Ivan Bessonov, heartstrings exposed, playing without conceit, as if guided by an all-knowing heavenly hand.. as if hearing these words intoned, "This is Bach. For I created the Universe, said the Lord."

"The solo (are there any non solo piano works in this recital ?...) Bach at the beginning of this superb recital is as thrilling as the work of Glenn Gould; maybe even better." Wholly disagre as far as the ALLEMANDE is concerned. That fast and staccatto is toying with serious, profound music, trivializing it - like the by now dated old school of period instrument/historically informed(!) performance many times did. Leave that to all the fast dance movements if you like it, but please don't spoil this one. Compare to Hewitt, and especially to Blandinne Rannou on harpsichord (Oh, just in case I get a primal, silly "yeah, could you do better?" "objection", CONCERNING THE PARTICULAR PIECE THAT IS THE SOLE SUBJECT OF MY REPLY, YES, I actually can, BUT that's irrelevant!). That movement aside, of course Bessonov deserves our admiration for his amazing talent which is displayed everywhere else.

Hi Robert Vanya is not only an immense pianist, he is the result of his natural gifted child characteristics. It can be seen from the monstrous ease and natural harmony of the movement of his hands and the mature and flawless interpretation as well as the fact that he is practically free from errors in the execution of his performances. I read something about his early formation that could be common to many kids who start playing musical instruments very young, but gifted kids are not very common and show a clear superiority over precocious but not gifted musicians. Mozart was the most famous gifted boy, as well as Chopin, Liszt, Beethoven, Debussy, Rachmaninov and other great authors and performers of the past. Ivan cannot be compared as a composer to the aforementioned characters but he has skills that can make him emerge even as a composer since he is already at the highest levels as a performer. Best wishes Derek

Derek, you have made a great comment on Bessonov's skills and I agree his qualities are from his early years. There is a video out there of the boy, 10yrs old, playing the Mozart piano concerto #21, in c major. Its for 2 piano. Its so apparant what you said when he was 10. I am very jealous of Ivan! Its on 'Bessonov Brothers' videos. Note that in this video Ivan as a boy played entirely without music while the 2nd piano, a young female, did not. He has an kind of mind very rare . I've always claimed he is too mechanical, I do it in a nice way because he is a lovely young person and I actually think it a high complement coming from me. I would bet..??...it appears the Moscow school he attends and is doing well, in other videos I've watched...his future will join in the heavenly things to get him to Tschia. Competition, 2023. Let's hope. I think he would win if he shows 🤔 the judges his total skills. Its so nice to hear from you. Robert

@@robertflynn6686 Dear Robert I thank you for the appreciation. In fact I had seen the video you are talking about and it was there that I understood, also through other research, that Vanya is a gifted boy, out of the ordinary; for him, things are much simpler than for other precocious pianists, as are the learning times and the consequent masterful performances. I also think that in 2023 he will be able to present himself at Tchai with a great wealth of experiences that, combined with his innate and immeasurable gifts, could lead him to absolute success. The juries, however, are joys and sorrows and as is often said (here in Italy eh! Eh!), When an alleged Pope enters the Sistine chapel as Pope he often leaves the same chapel as a simple cardinal. Whoever lives will see, as long as Ivan goes to Tchai. I'm not a skilled pianist, I arrange a little with my daughter's piano, my instrument is the classical guitar in which I graduated over 50 years ago, after graduating in engineering in the seventies. Now I am a retiree who at 74 takes pleasure in spending a few hours on the PC when my health, not too good, allows me a little freedom. I know instead that you are a great pianist and have the ability to notice the refinements or flaws of a pianist therefore it is important that you have appreciated some improvements (the Moscow school matures the boy) in Ivan's latest performances, especially in the rehearsals concerning the "Contest for Young Musicians" Constellation ", which Vanya won last fall 2020. For the rest I wish you the best for the rest of this year. Greetings dear Derek (from Venice)

Beautiful performances. The Rachmaninoff Etudes Tableaux opus 39 (50:00) evokes the mood and vivid picture each one is intended to create. I wish he had played all of them, however. Ivans encore, his own Waltz, is a moment in life when time stands still, and should probably be called 'Fragment' in A minor.

The joy of Bach! It is the gift of Life as God so willed it to each of us that we should know of Love as our sole means of survival, in a world that forever challenges us to reach beyond ourselves towards the highest star; to simply know who we are. There is a message in this music for all of us, especially as intoned by Ivan Bessonov. It is one of healing; the type of healing that can only come through Spirit, and through the divine realisation of ourselves in others, that we should live in fellowship with one another, yes? And this thought, it translates across all genres of music, all styles: Debussy, Tchaikovsky, it comes to us on the wings of dove. Even the music of Debussy as Ivan plays it here, it is centered in Bach but extended through the veil, the still thought that moves towards prayer, Love's Spirit set sail. The Andante Maestoso from the Nutcracker arranged by Mikhail Pletnev - I have never heard it played so elegantly, not by Vadim Rudenko or even Mikhail Pletnev himself that would afford such a fluid, full line of movement in keeping with the pas de deux of the ballet from which it comes, and as Tchaikovsky first conceived it. It is incredibly beautiful. I would wish for Rudolf Nureyev to hear it! Thank you a thousand times over for uploading this recital to KZbin. I will be sure to listen to it again, and many times over. It is what the art of music-making is all about: Humility. God bless you Ivan!
