I am thinking about purchasing this device and all the reviews and tutorials look great. My only question is with the 2.0 firmware update. I am unclear whether there exists an option to mute the speaker outputs automatically when enabling one of the mic channels. Coming from traditional radio, this is a standard feature on broadcast mixers so as to prevent feedback. It is also great as an indicator that the microphones are muted and hosts can hear commercials or music without necessarily wearing headphones.

Hey the voice setting disappeared on my Rodecaster!!! Can you help me please
@DOBM4 жыл бұрын
Like many reviewers you do not seem to understand that the voice settings do not change what your voice sounds like, they actually change how the filters are applied. A good example of this is the use of the noise gate. You will find that the effect of the gate changes in how you have told the RØDECaster what your voice is like in both tone and volume. The purpose is to make changes based upon a non audio engineers understanding of complicated setting parameters.
@TheKing-fp5dd4 жыл бұрын
I'm agree with you. I found the fact that the voice setting is relate with noise gate feature, nothing to do with our voice power.

Thanks for the wonderful review. thanks for showing all the effects. only one thing missing is reverb / delay. Do you know how i can bring that into this system? Another question i have regarding live sound output, can i add the stereo output directly to powered speakers so audience can hear the same the sound? or do i need additional sound mixer for extra boost?
@TheThreeTechs4 жыл бұрын
To add reverb or other external effects, I would use either the USB or smartphone channel if you’re not already using one of those. If using USB, you could send the audio to a computer that adds reverb in real-time using a DAW like Logic Pro X or others. The DAW should then send the return signal back to the RØDECaster Pro. This will add reverb and delay to the entire mix. You could do something similar with the smartphone jack. Just get a TRRS y-cable to split the mic/headphone connections and hook it up to external reverb box. The y-cable headphone jack would be the return from the reverb. The mono mic connection would connect to the input on the reverb.
@TheThreeTechs4 жыл бұрын
The outputs for speakers on the RØDECaster Pro are line level so you don’t need to amplify it before connecting to powered speakers.

Thanks for this review, I just purchased my first condenser mic the Audio Technica AT2020, and the Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 2x2 USB Audio Interface both which are nice and cost effective. Your video was the catalyst for me to pause on the audio recorder and was able to cancel it, now the question is do I want to get my feet wet with the $160 unit or jump in with the $600 Rode.
@TheThreeTechs4 жыл бұрын
The RØDECaster Pro has some convenient built-in effects for voice recording, does mix-minus automatically, and it makes interfacing with phones easier. But you could achieve similar results with other gear and plug-ins. For us, it comes down to convenience.

Can I connect Shure SM 7B via DBX 286s to Rodecaster? I mean don’t we need a preamp in between SM 7B and Rodecaster otherwise I am hearing noise floor
@nocobc5 жыл бұрын
I had this same question and actually this was the only reason I don't use my Rodecaster pro for my podcast. I use my Shure SM7B with a cloudlifter and dbx286s and that sound combo works for me. Unfortunately the dbx only has line out (not XLR :( ) and the Rode doesn't have a balanced line input option. I haven't experimented with using the 3.5mm input on the Rodecaster with a converter cable but that may be a valid workaround. My hope is that the Rodecaster Pro II will have a few more line level input options.

I though the SOLO green button had to do with like the mix minus? You have to have the green selected for that mic input channel to be recorded in the mix. I could be wrong, I've watched a few on the RCP back to back.
@TheThreeTechs2 жыл бұрын
When the green solo and red mute are engaged at the same time, it allows people on headphones to hear and talk to each other without being recorded or going on air-like a private green room before you bring a guest live. This is useful if you’re playing intro or segue music and want to talk to your guest privately before you go live. Solo doesn’t affect mix minus.

Good overview, and cheers for using the actual device. Too many "reviews" out here on YT with people just talking about it without using it. hahaha Agreed, the gate with all the other effects is annoying. You can hear noise which somewhat makes your track sound a bit over processed. It can work well I'm sure. I have this but don't use the gate. I also never use the Aphex processing. One thing, just wanted to mention that a high pass filter is not for plosive control. A high pass filter is meant to remove rumble and or erroneous low end frequencies from a performance. Not sure where the Rodecaster is set. Probably around 80hz but in post people tend to adjust this anywhere in the 40-100 ish hz range. a pop filter will minimize pops from plosives as that's actual wind moving against the mic diaphragm. Multi to SD card should be available this month if not today.
@TheThreeTechs5 жыл бұрын
Mike Bajrami Thanks for watching and the feedback. I agree that high pass filters aren’t primarily designed for pop filtering, but it did significantly reduce them in our case. The mic diaphragm, pre-amps and A/D converters can be overloaded by excessive pops, so if the high pass happens after all that, then it won’t be effective at all. As you said, high pass does help when there is excessive undesirable low frequency sound, which can often overwhelm the overall signal and more important mid and high frequency range in vocals. I’ve also heard from RØDE that internal multitrack is coming this week. Cheers!
