Sub mixes is in my opinion the 1 thing stopping this from being essential for streaming

A feature that’s already working and RODE hasn’t made an announcement (yet), is using a 1/4” stereo male to 3.5mm stereo male cable using the 3.5mm female to Lighting cable and plug it into one of your mic inputs to be able to have direct connection with your iPhone phone recordings where you don’t have to use Bluetooth. This will prevent possible Bluetooth delay issues that can happen when trying to livestream and recording a call. Also direct cable connection in this way, the sound comes in much cleaner. Hope this helps!

Meister...you are THE BEST podcaster for anything related to audio mixers. The Rodecaster Pro II is my first feature-rich mixer and you have done an excellent job in explaining how to use the features including those that are not even in the Rodecaster Pro II. I am looking forward to the release of custom routing to the analog channels. I've had to hack it together by using the headphone 1 output and could really use it for the monitor outputs. Hopefully this firmware update will be coming soon and include the submixes. Update on October 11th 49 days later without a firmware update. ***** I DOUBT THE SUBMIX FIRMWARE UPDATE IS EVER COMING OUT *****

Yes, upon launch there was a hint about firmware updates every 4-6 weeks and the last one was in July (that is nearly 4 months ago). I guess they've been busy with the Røde X line and how it integrates into the RCP2 down the line. I actually am optimistic, Røde has a good track record, I don't think they stop improving on the RCP2, but they surely don't have unlimited resources.

@PodcastMeister2 жыл бұрын
Thanks Mac! What do you think could be most useful for guitarists?
@HomesickMac2 жыл бұрын
@@PodcastMeister Well, _anything_ that shortens the way between my guitars and good sound recorded or played live, means also a lot less packing.. I'm planning to use RCPII in my workshops when travelling (and then livestreaming on the road...) and the size of it is perfect for a photography bag/backpack, so that and couple of cables and mics, I'm off for the races. I can always take with me my advanced pedal board but that's additional weight, I need power for that too. There's this expression pedal by BOSS that has BT (and works that way with the new BOSS DUAL CUBE LX amp), so if RCPII could "talk" to BT volume and expression pedals.... So, with all context needs explained, I'm excited about those already mentioned functions in your video like the Tuner, Effects besides Reverb and Delays - let's say some more usual processing like Vibrato, Tremolo. I'm wondering how these would be switchable on/off without pedalling of some kind, or maybe I'm asking too much anyway. You mention downloadable effects, Røde works closely with Aphex, so I know I'd be happy to pay for exceptionally good effects. Aphex has a fantastic processor - Exciter (Aural Exciter & Optical Big Bottom) as hardware, and they've had it in one of the studios where I recorded. I'm not expecting that really but similar enhancements. I own two amps by Positive Grid and they offer hundreds of free effects through their app. If the Røde's app could feed an online effects bank into the RCPII somehow, it would be great. I'm kind of painting myself into the corner with so many suggestions and wishes, getting a bit lost now. But I'm looking forward to what's coming!

Is there any sort of update on how many of these new features have been implemented? I'm just a normal gaming content creator/streamer with a 2 PC setup (one for Discord + encoding stream or recording my videos, and one for the actual gaming) - I have a GoXLR but the whole audio setup is very confusing to me with multiple routing of cables between the two PCs. I'm very intrigued by the RodeCaster because of the dual USB connection, theoretically I could just plug my XLR mic into the RodeCaster, USB to both PCs, and sort out the routing all through the USB connections rather than the 5 or 6 different AUX cables I have running from my current PCs to the GoXLR, which would be amazing. But it seems like some of these features you mentioned are basically must-haves for streaming/content creation
@PodcastMeister2 жыл бұрын
None of these have been implemented yet. The last firmware update was in July 2022. (which means, considering Røde’s history with updates, that they are long overdue). But as of now, you still cannot create sub-mixes, which is where the GoXLR has the edge.

@@TrueGameData Answering your other questions though, yes you only need the two USB-C cables. One for your gaming PC and another to the streaming pc and you're good to go. The one issue I have is we're still waiting for sub-mixes so you can't separate your music track.. yet. Once they add this, it will probably be the best thing for duel PC streamers although a bit expensive when compared to the GOXLR. Great video! I haven't used RCP or RCPII, but having been in radio broadcasting for 30+ years I think the trend is towards these kind of devices (and away from 50k+ EUR specialized broadcasting gear..). Some spontaneous thoughts from me: * "Live stream to Shoutcast/Icecast/etc." directly from RCPII would be nice. Hitting REC would then connect to the pre-configured stream server and start streaming directly. * On the hardware side - perhaps an "RCP II XL / Plus"? Could be more or less identical features/software, but a few more physical faders and perhaps a knob or two (for gain, FX, sub-mixes etc.) above each fader? I think simplicity/ergonomics can start suffering as Rode squeezes more stuff into the same physical form-factor...

Really looking forward to the analog channel output separation and the sub mix, hopefully you could apply a sub mix to a slider though... For example, having discord and music on sliders, you could fade up or down on the PC effecting your over all mix, and mute to output but keep the listen available in your head set. I two pc stream and the biggest advantage comes from the channel separation for me as I still need to send my mic output separately to a audio effects unit for vocal effects for characters I do... If I can't just send a mic output there, without discord and everything else coming through, then it makes it unusable for my program. Still... Have one on the desk in front of me. The processing and audio quality is awesome. Can't wait until I can fully integrate it into the stream set up.

What I would like to see? Using Phonesoutputs, those FOUR stereo analog outputs as inputs. I mean, we only have TWO stereo analog inputs since you can't even change mic to a stereo in as on a real broadcat mixer. Can we monitor the audio in real time with Bluetooth speakers? Question for procaster 1 and 2. Or wireless headphones
@PodcastMeister2 жыл бұрын
The Rødecaster Pro 2 has Bluetooth speaker support, the Rødecaster Pro 1 does not. So on the RCP2 you can, but there will be more latency vs if you would do it wired. Also, if you have mics connected, unless you want to use the speakers in a separate room, the speakers‘ sound will inevitably bleed into the mics and/or the speakers will mute as soon as you‘ll have a mic active to avoid feedback loop.

Hello, a question. How do I exclude my microphone from the monitors during a live stream, while still listening to my guest's voice? Thanks for your attention.
@PodcastMeister2 жыл бұрын
Hi, currently there‘s no direct way to customize the monitor outputs (that‘s an upcomming feature). But even when the custom routing for analog outputs arrive, your microphone will inevitably pick up the sound of the monitors, which will then create a feedback loop to the livestream. The Tascam Mixcast 4 had a feedback prevention feature earlier that muted the mic input when the monitors were active, but they have also changed it to mute the monitors when the mic is active - which does not help you. Headphones is the solution unfortunately, I‘m yet to find a solution for this too.

Hi Denis, yes, you can "teach" a capable DAW (i.e. Logic) to control the mixer with the RCP2's faders (also with the current firmware, it is not an upcoming feature, it's already there - Tom Buck has a video about the RCP2's "Computer Features", you can find more info there), but these are not motorized faders, so it wouldn't work the other way 'round.

Good video - looking forward to 1.0.8 and beyond! Your feedback to Rode seems to have impact. Can you please express to Rode how badly they messed up when they removed the TRRS connector, they killed the one feature podcasters that take live calls during recordings or live shows need... NO latency two-way conversations on cell phones! The Bluetooth connectivity is nice, but has a horrible latency that is like talking on a land line 40 years ago between America and Europe (500-700 msec). My guest and I constantly step on each other; it's painfully useless. I suggested to Rode that they add the ability to allow for a USB-C to TRRS adapter so that live calls can once again return to this platform. If anyone out there knows a workaround (for iPhone and Android), I'm all ears. --- OPTION 2: I Rode allows for live calls via a USB-C to Lightning (or USB-C to xxx for Android), or even a Lightning to TRRS to XLR/Speaker splitter cable (all of which I have), that would be acceptable as well.
@PodcastMeister Жыл бұрын
Thanks for the feedback! The USB2 port is meant to be able to wire-connect mobile phones. I would use genuine Røde cables just to be on the safe side (SC21 is the USB-C to Lightning and SC22 the USB-C to USB-C cable). In the Routing menü, just set the USB2 output to „Mix-Minus“.
@jeffsumeracki7263 Жыл бұрын
@@PodcastMeister I have tested this and confirmed on other websites that Apple iPhone when connected to RCP2 via USB2 does not allow transfer of voice during a live call, thus a live 2-way conversation cannot be recorded or aired during podcasting. "Audio" can be played (i.e., music player, apps, etc) but not phone calls. Rode stated this was an Apple firmware and/or design limitation. Maybe this works with Android phones only? If so, my temporary solution will be to get a 2nd "burn" Android phone. Rode also suggested using an approved APP such as "Teams" for conferencing in callers, but while that may work, it can introduce some latency (not as bad as Bluetooth). There are also new Bluetooth codecs that are optimized for extremely low latency (i.e., aptX™ Low Latency), but Rode also does not support these.

All I want from them is to put the flag or mark one the smart pads instead of the display. This would be a big help in my voice overs and it seems like it would be an easy change. Here's to hoping!

what do i do? i’m trying to record off my rodecaster pro 2, and when i hit the “rec” it doesn’t begin to record the button is still blue
@PodcastMeister2 жыл бұрын
Hi, the REC button is blue if you don’t have an sd card inserted. So if you neither have an SD card inserted, nor an ssd connected to the USB port, you will not be able to record as there is nowhere to record to. I hope it helps.

Once again an unbelievably great video.💪💪💪💥💥💥 Do you already know when these features will come? I don't think that all features come with a single update, do they?
@PodcastMeister2 жыл бұрын
Thanks, glad you liked it! No idea when these updates will drop, but for sure not all at once. RØDE has launched the survey (it has unfortunately been closed already) exactly for asking the users about which feature they are looking forward the most to, so that they can prioritize the product development roadmap, but they have not revealed a release timeline.

@@michaelocunningham No, I use Keynote + a MotionVFX plugin in Final Cut Pro called mCamRig.

@@PodcastMeister I’m familiar with mcamrig…you use it so well. I’m inspired to start using it again
