Has anyone run into a problem with the USB-C to PC connection. The RCP2 doesn’t stay connected. Microphone input bounces from connected to not connected. I don’t know if it’s a cable issue, a device issue or something that could be updated and fix via a firmware update.

Total home run on that final honest recommendation (and the whole vid). Got this guy to evaluate, tried it for a day, loved it, then, as you said, did an honest reflection and decided I don't need it. May in the future, but for now my solid USB mic is good, I already invested in Hindenburg Journalist, which gives me all the simple yet powerful tools I need, I collaborate with other podcasters but 94% of the time we're on different ends of the world...yeah, this thing is awesome, but it's 700 bucks that could be better spent elsewhere. Without doubt the best review of the Roadcaster Pro 2 I've seen anywhere. Only one thing I disagreed with (and that is a personal preference) is that I'd actually like to see more physical microphone faders not less. As it is, I use 2 condenser mics in a booth along with a dynamic mic outside connected directly to the unit for TalkBack/live streaming etc. The 4th is used as a line level input which leaves nothing to spare. Then again when recording VO I go directly into an Apollo twin and that only has 2 inputs. Ultimately, do I need the RPC2? Probably not. One feature would make this a killer unit for me? The ability to integrate directly with Source Connect.

5:38 Mackie DLZ Creator XS does not show the decibel readings and this Rodecaster does! Nice! I ended up having to return my Mackie DLZ Creator XS due to broken Linux support and problems with the gate feature. It's not like I did not configure the gate correctly, but more like even if I set the threshold to -60dB, the signal of my voice seems to hit a threshold of -60dB even if I use a compressor. I have my voice around -18dB or so to give myself some headroom and use a compressor as a limiter, but for some reason, in order to get my voice to sound right, I would have to set the gain to near clipping. The gate in the DLZ Creator XS is so defective out of the box. If only I could see the dot that moves diagonally so I know the signal is working and that I can see accurate dB reading in the right side of the screen. So yeah, I'm returning such a defective DLZ Creator XS...

Little brother of Procaster Pro 2, the Prodcaster Duo has very good mic preamps. Gain hungry dynamic microphones have awesome clean sound, much better compared to “cloudlifters”. Suits well for many purposes, audio recording, live shows, DAW input, online calls. Very versatile device. The only caveat is lack of easy way to mute monitors.

I am planning to streamline my setup. I currently use an SSL 2 with an additional dbx 286S connected to an SM7B. I use the setup for gaming and occasional voice-overs or dubbing. Unfortunately, the dbx generates too much background noise, which comes through in recordings. I would also like to record my bass, my Roland SH-201 and my Roland JP-8000 via the interface in the future. My idea now is to replace both devices with the Rodecaster Pro II. What I find appealing about the Rodecaster is that it has various effects such as a compressor, noise gate etc. directly on board. This allows me to reduce the footprint of my setup because I don't have much space in my home studio. An additional mixing console would therefore not occur to me. However, a higher-quality preamp also costs a lot of money, and that would simply be wasted money for my requirements. However, I have the feeling that I would be taking a massive step backwards with regard to the converters. The SSL 2 has really great converters for the price range and a very high-quality preamp. I know, it's all a bit of a mess. But I hope you can help me here and maybe recommend an alternative.

Great review! I can really tell the time that was spent making it. I'm on the fence with purchasing this device. Just bought an Earthworks Ethos mic and plan to use it with my MixPre 3 II interface for live podcasting, webinars, streaming, etc. among other things. The ONLY feature I would really gain with this device is the real-time voice processing features. I can probably just do it live in software somehow or maybe consider adding a used ART Voice Channel to my chain for like $300.
@Podcastage2 жыл бұрын
Allen - The MixPre3 is a fantastic device, and it even has a built in limiter. The Ethos is a fantastic mic and you don't need to do much to it. I'd say just use those two things together for a few months and see if you end up actually realizing there's a huge issue with your audio that requires further investment. I'm guessing you'll find that it's amazing as is with that level of gear, but maybe you will find that there's one thing that really needs to be fixed, and then you'll be sure you're spending money on something that you absolutely need to. Best of luck, and enjoy that gear in good health, you've got a GREAT setup.

Great job as always Bandrew!! Thanks!!.. I finally got one.. familiar with audio interfaces, can't get the Bluetooth connected phone (tried different phones) to pick up much signal from the RCP2, the audio going to the caller. Very faint, even the sound effects get out to caller, but faint. Have latest firmware, phone audio plays music great. Recording to micro storage produces great output sound from my mic and sound effects at the RPC2, but very little sound volume sent to caller using BT, almost inaudible, but there is some sound. So caller gets almost no audio out of the RPC2. Tried every imaginable routing for BT, tried different BT settings at phone, multiple phones/brands etc. My setup at RCP2 is only wall/power supply plugged in, Wifi connected and the BT connected to smartphones with no USB connection to computer. I noticed the monitor icon on the RPC2 was yellow slashed out, figured that's because I have no monitors attached. Anyone have any ideas? Faint output sent to smartphone caller via BT from RCP2 is the issue. Have support issue opened for a while, but though someone may shed some light.. thanks!!!

I don't have one of these devices I was considering it but what happens in Canada is we get double priced ie $US converted to $CDN so I'm not sure if it's worth spending best part of $2000 with a decent mike desktop arm and the device itself just to go the XLR route. I currently use a fantastic piece of software on my mac called 'audio hijack' by 'rogue amoeba' look it up this works with my iphone and any other device, it's well worth trying the cost is minor but what you can do with this is almost limitless 10/10

I want to ugrade to this from a goxlr mini for dual pc streaming because I'm sick of the go xlr's hissing on the stereo line out and in. Also the go xlr mini will decide to stop working pretty often and will need to be restarted over and over.
@funnyjelo2 жыл бұрын
I have one of these, and for all the streaming perks aside, just the mixer function with the multiple USB's is key. I can technically run 3 pc's with the line in as headphone out if i get really janky. I solved my deskspace issue by using a monitor arm and vesa mounting it. Also allows you to actually see the display instead of the bad angle it is on desk mounted. Definitely the way I would use it. Another function I think worth exploring on your second channel, is the ASIO drivers in something like OBS. This is honestly the way it should be used, I like the stereo mix in OBS, but when you are actually recording to OBS, the different sources are god tier for hotkeying mutes and so forth. There was some major improvements with the latest firmware, but since then, this has been an excellent device for me.
@Alexandra-Rex2 жыл бұрын
I mentioned ASIO and OBS to Røde somewhere and they said _"For OBS, we recommend using USB Main Stereo (Tracks 1 and 2), ASIO/multitrack record is more for DAWs."_ But I don't get that reply. If it can be done and you can get every input via ASIO so you can do with them what you want in OBS, why not just do that regardless of how they meant for it to be used. In my OBS setup I have my Master L/R Mix from the mixer going to the stream and when I record, I record all sources individually so I can edit how I want with recorded stuff. ASIO would let me do this with the Rødecaster Pro II as well. I don't understand their reply as they do target streamers and gamers too with this product.

Two vocalists and myself on Guitar with some vocals (pubs and very small shows), playing along with pre-recorded backing tracks (cover tunes that I have re-recorded all of the instruments too). I can see this being used to control everything that will be driving three monitors for the stage and outputting the mains to the P.A. (think small!). This might do everything that I need to handle three mics. Let me know if there is a better solution. The Yamaha is really nice but only has two mic preamps.

@@Podcastage i was going to ask you about this too. in my unit, there is a SLIGHT phasing/comb filtering in my headphones, when I speak into the microphone... its not terrible, and certainly not a delay that would be super distracting, but it isn't "zero latency" monitoring like what is found in other interfaces. What bugs have you found? I only ran into the import show issue where it got hung up, but I wasn’t able to recreate it. If you have some other bugs, I’d love to try to recreate them.

@@BandrewScott well.... I can't really use its windows app to update its firmware... I have to use Wifi to actually update it.... and I had issue with ASIO Driver.... turns out its the Rode's "O" with the slash (/) has some issue to deal with my Traditional Chinese Windows 11, I need to change the file directory to actually make it work. Had abit of hard time to set Compressor and noise gate.... I am using it to stream, and sing Kareoke. And I thought I can use the PADS to control OBS, but actually you need to install a plugin to make it work.... o well, I still like it very much, it sounds way better than TC Helicon's GO XLR....

Hello, I need some help with my RODEcaster Pro II. I recently bought it and I'm trying to pan two Rode NT1 microphones-one all the way to the left and the other all the way to the right. I've tried everything, but the microphones are still coming through the center, no matter how much I turn the pan knob. I have stereo mode enabled, and I've selected the pan effect, but it’s not working as expected. Can you help me figure out what might be going wrong?

I have been waiting for this most excellent review since you announced it a fair ways back. I am glad I waited, well done. There is one question I had hoped would be answered here more than a "depends on your use-case" type affair. That question is: How does the Rodecaster Pro II compare to the TASCAM Mixcast 4?
@Podcastage2 жыл бұрын
The preamps of the Mixcast 4 have the same noise floor as the RCP 1. So you can extrapolate there based on that comparison. Then it legitimately does come down to your use case. Do you need the multi usb output, do you need the midi controls, do you want the instrument inputs, do you want the more full fledged operating system and processing options from the RCPII?

@@Podcastage But it's $700 :D Thank you so much for your reply and review. Top notch!

@@Rommsey RIGHT! B&H had the Mixcast 4 on sale for $300 for one day last week. I picked one up...still trying to decide if I have enough need though! 😂 Hard to justify spending over twice the cost for sure!

Question, if I was going to be running a multi-mic podcast (2-4 respectively), with multi-cameras, is there something ELSE you would recommend that would handle all of this MINUS the "un-needed" sound effects? When you made me ask myself, "Do I need this all?", I need MOST, but not the sound effects etc. Thanks!

I challenge you to come up with a device without any knob or slider wiggle. Wiggle is a trade off b/w ease of movement and the stability of knob or slider. What good is a device that will have no wiggle but you really have to push hard to move the knob or slider?

Great review! All your work is highly appreciated! This would replace my Soundcraft Signature 12 MTK, my dbx 286s and my headphone amp which is connected to Group 1-2 on the mixer. And replace Voicemeeter on my two systems which I use to send game sound from the game PC to the streaming PC and microphone sound from the streaming PC to the gaming PC (so I can get in-game voice when I want to). And on top of that, give me a lot more functionality since I get the functionality of the dbx 286s (and more) to all sources. I really want to try this thing.

I had a DBX286s and Motu M2. Sold the DBX kept the M2. Replaced with the RCP2. No regrets at all.

@Rhys Morgan how is it so far? Also, what microphone are you using? I was debating on getting RCP2 or motu with dbx 286s for noise gate. Want to be flexible where I can create videos, music, livestream.
