It still baffles me to this day, as to why I didn't attract any women whilst dancing like a 1985 Stipe in clubs.

This is great! They're all amazing musicians, and Bill Berry is amazing, as always, in this performance. I think he was always very underrated in his musical abilities, and also as a drummer. I picked up the drums just to learn all of his parts lol!

If I could pick any tour to see in their entire catalogue it would be this one. Either this one or the one the year before in 1984. These shows look like gold, so raw

Morrissey and Stipe could get along. I can tell ya that. R.E.M. at this performance feels so much like The Smiths its awesome.

I saw them on this tour a few months earlier during the summer in Boston. Michael was wearing overalls and I vividly remember his blond hair - I don't remember his dancing though 🙂

My second favorite R.E.M. song. Disco rock, not unlike what the Stones dabbled in.

That wasn't the one where they played Murmur and Green in sequence, was it? Oh I think that was Atlanta...I got that on tape. Yep, my friend and I drove 20 hours straight to see Athens.

Yeah, it's a 12-string. Looks like the old Roger McGuinn signature Rickenbacker 340/12, I know Peter owns one.

What's with this half dead crowd? Had REM just not hit in Germany at all at this time? German crowds are usually great.

I've watched this 100 times--great video. 1985 in Germany was a universe apart from 45 years earlier in Germany. 1940 Germany stood on top of the world. Soon they would invade the Soviet Union (Russia), and nearly finish it. People who behaved in any way similar to Michael Stipe would not have lasted 10 minutes in that Germany. Germany has come a long, long way. We Americans could learn a thing or two from them.
