This song is so solid that they released a demo version of the track on their "Best Of..." where its only Stipe and Mills on piano. It is equally beautiful stripped down. Another interesting part that is clever is the short instrumental bridge on piano that leads to final chorus. Absolutely mathematically perfect.

I often play this song when I need a minute out or to check the fuck out of my catastrophic thinking. For those of us who experience that feeling that the worst will always happen you will know what I’m talking about.
