REM is literally the only band where I could start with the first song on Murmer, keep on playing through all the other dozen studio albums, and start right back with Murmer again…without ever wishing a song would finish up to get to the next one, or be inclined to skip one of their “less commercial” records. EVERY ONE of their songs I consider a masterpiece of utter originality. Their body of work is simply breathtaking.

@Picnicl5 жыл бұрын
Internationally, and with the critics, certainly in the UK, R.E.M. are the pinnacle of American bands. They are the closest thing to The Doors since The Doors and far more diverse in sounds and styles. The UK likes changing styles that have an underlying consistency and theatrical accomplishment in their music gods. REM's postmodernist and widescreen yet also small town imaginations and sympathies fits the bill of what intellectuals might romanticise of America as a land of Nighthawks and nightswimmers, beehive female singers, tragic or comedic movie stars, barbecues in large, sunkissed, back gardens, and getting wonderfully stuck in LA traffic. ’Blame' The Beatles for our high tastes - REM are very admirable.
