I always liked the lyrics... Most of this song is in reference to things some dismiss as being non-factual, such as the death of Andy Kaufmann and referencing his appearance in pro wrestling, as well as portraying Elvis (whose manner of passing also has been questioned) and other roles...Darwin's theory of evolution... Moses and the existence of God...The authenticity of the church... Isaac Newton explaining the concept of gravity because an apple supposedly fell upon his head....The deadly Asp, which was symbolic of Pharaoh and his self-proclaimed "godlike existence", and its influence on everyday life in Ancient Egypt...And finally, the song's title lead itself, which once again, raises the question of whether or not the moon landings were carefully crafted staged government conspiracies...

You know that they were. They have been lying to us for 1000s of years. Up until the 1920s flat earth was taught in schools, remember in 1917-18 there was a supposed pandemic, with vaccines, mask, lockdowns, etc.. It's like they have to reset every 100 years, and perhaps a Great Reset every 1000 years, where a huge percentage of the population is killed off. Food for thought.

@surfingshewolf6 жыл бұрын
Lyrically, the song is a tribute to the comedian and performer Andy Kaufman with numerous references to his career including his Elvis impersonation, wrestling, and the film My Breakfast with Blassie. The song's title and chorus refer to the moon landing conspiracy theories as an oblique allusion to rumors that Kaufman's death in 1984 was faked. The song gave its name to Man on the Moon (1999), Miloš Forman's film based on Kaufman's life, and was featured prominently in the film's soundtrack.

I love the clever way Michael Stipe/REM actually write lyrics. It sounds like he's telling a story. BUT...There are numerous layers beneath what in actuality he's really saying. It is first and foremost to wake people up to 'real- EYES' that pretty much nothing presented to the public is true and accurate. Hence the line .."IF you believe they put a man on the moon... IF you believe there's nothing up my sleeve, nothing is cool." Everybody is playing a role in the public eye. Basically actors for the establishment. I love REM for their great creativity and abilities. They are disclosing what the elites are doing, in plain sight.

The greatest thing about being the moon is that when people have forgotten about the sun and find themselves in darkness, it may not shine light that comes from itself as the source but still, it does its work. It make us all remember that the sun is still there though we may not see it which is in fact the real source of this light that the moon reflects. Just like the moon, we can always shine bright for the world to be a little bit brighter during night time by allowing the light from the sun to illuminate us like a beacon of hope. The moon is within our grasp and constantly here right next to us as we revolve around the sun. So the moon is closer to us and may be among us and gives us exactly the same thing that we need just a little reminder and a little brightness. And that the the sun because of it being way too enormous and powerful is just right to be far away from us being what it is in the center where we revolve around it. And also the stars in infinite number and obviously farther away more than ever because of their nature are also perfect the way they are in all of it's mystery. I feel today that what I really wanted was encourage everyone to be just like the moon so that when everyone seems to have forgotten about the existence of the sun in their darkest and coldest nights we would be there to assure them that the sun or the stars stays with us always even when we no longer see them in this very hour of the night. -Man on the moon
