After I had lost both of my parents, I GOT this song. Before I lost them both, I thought to myself, sweetness follows? I've lost the two most important people in my life, my sister turned on me and I am the most depressed I have ever been. What is SO sweet about that? The fact that I survived it all. I am still here AND living my life, after all of that pain. I am a completely new person and a better one, at that. I miss you Mom and Dad. This song is for you.

I think it just means that life goes on. That you can get "pulled under" by these losses. But you have to "live your life filled with joy and wonder/thunder" and keep living because although there is pain from loss, if you keep living, sweetness follows. Stay strong. Hope you find it.

Beautiful rendition of this sumptuous song from the band's masterpiece album. There is no bad note on that opus. Would have loved to still have REM together and record to see if they could strike lightning once more. I guess it was not to be. What a legacy they have left us with. God bless REM.
