I do not own any of the rights of either song or images in this video. As there is no video for this moving song, I made this video by taking excerpts from the Documentary for R.E.M. AUTOMATIC FOR THE PEOPLE for the fans and to pay tribute to this wise band.

A great song from a brilliant album & band!! I recall hearing this amazing song a lot in the early 1990's. Cannot believe it's 30 years old now!!

I am much more of a fan of REM's earlier stuff, especially Murmur, but this song is great, much better than all the overplayed commercial stuff they started doing in the 90s.

@Lusi q Thank you for making a wonderful Piece of art with your video. The guys in #REM should watch this This tune may be about Stips Grandmother, but I promise it was in his subconscious, that lovely part of the mind of which one is not fully aware but which influences one's actions and feelings, what was happening all around him as well as many of us and others. It was a brutal time for many of us in or around music during this time, and that's how this album, aka cd, came to be very, very deep feelings many of us fans and others could relate to this song ( whole CD) it breaks me still as I write (tears flying down my face writing this recollection down to the fabrics on buses stages many of their garments their smells, etc.) now knowing what I do about my body. I am writing a memoir as well as a memoir trilogy that answers truths for many fans, truths unlike lies. The trilogy will not be finished until I take my last breath. Yes, It lived one of many great moments while touring with many I can truly say that to you, @Lusi q. It considerably lived in my eyes (as I tried to save many lives); it lives in my recollections. Stips and REM itself was a historic band breaking down obstacles for numerous that don't even acknowledge it as it existed a cruel and sad time for some of us; even those of us who observed listened didn't even touch a drug or many passing of aids; we never share specific things there extremly private for many of us regarding what we sadly were observing and feeling during the late 80s and 90s, and losing many we loved became a day-to-day thing. How greatly do many of us love so deeply? So many of us care for the sick, frail, and elder. Even the young whom you all adored then existed alone, sadly observing in profound pain, passing young one by one evolved into an everyday tragedy. They are all frozen in time and not their suffering. They were all so much more than the drug's drinking accidental overdoses everyone speaks of. I like to remember the good fun times things, then you lose your husband so young in utter shock yet not knowing it was going to happen sooner or later, but you quietly held onto that hopefulness that you clearly no isn't going to transpire. Many of the bands I toured or was around had a message and sadly many misunderstood the message . But some younger teens tell me how they wish they were with me or me and they understood the message of many of my late friends and thats what they needed to hear. This is a good pice of art as they say what one writes a song lyrics about another may take away something else from art wonderful art I will try not to breathe I can hold my head still with my hands at my knees These eyes are the eyes of the old, shiver and fold I will try not to breathe This decision is mine I have lived a full life And these are the eyes that I want you to remember, oh I need something to fly over my grave again I need something to breathe I will try not to burden you I can hold these inside I will hold my breath Until all these shivers subside Just look in my eyes I will try not to worry you I have seen things that you will never see Leave it to memory me I shudder to breathe I want you to remember, oh (you will never see) I need something to fly (something to fly) Over my grave again (you will never see) I need something to breathe (something to breathe) Baby, don't shiver now Why do you shiver? (I will see things you will never see) I need something to fly (something to fly) Over my grave again (I will see things you will never see) I need something to breathe, oh, oh, oh, oh Oh, oh, oh, oh Oh, oh, oh, oh Oh, oh, oh, oh Oh, oh, oh I will try not to worry you I have seen things that you will never see Leave it to memory me Don't dare me to breathe I want you to remember oh (you will never see) I need something to fly (something to fly) Over my grave again (you will never see) I need something to breathe (something to breathe) Baby, don't shiver now Why do you shiver now? (I will see things you will never see) I need something to breathe (something to breathe) (I have seen things you will never see) I want you to remember

@@7l6f4s9q They are friends off mine. I can tell you no, he honestly didn't care for making them (nor did many of us), so no, there isn't one but yours, and it is truly unique because you have no idea what was transpiring during this time for not just them but numerous of us in this lovely industry we call music or the arts. I understand he's seen your video, which is why it is still up, and your regard as you wrote everything giving them credit. So again, many different bands we all lost bonded to this song. Again he wrote it concerning his grandmother's loss, but no band or artist wants fans to feel what they were or were going through but what others may take from it. Stips wrote this imagining what his grandmother ( or anyone was thinking while passing away)was thinking while she was quietly passing. He was wondering what was going through her mind. He imagined, and that's how the lyrics became thoughts of what one may think when passing away or in that final moment. We all know this as he told a few of us the story about the tune. It goes much deeper, but that is personal for many of him and us. Good job, Luis; look at him playing his guitar closely; he was thinking in silence for a reason. Never stop making videos from your perspective; that's what it's about. God knows Steven Tyler will even say he couldn't stand making videos took this industry a while to make him do them. Because he wanted others to take what they wanted from the song, not make videos as to what his tunes are about. Keep making them, @Luis q. Some have a compelling message as well as what not to do or follow what they all are doing. Sadly many of us lost many of our friends like yesterday was living hell all over again as it would have been his birthday and today another. They are at peace, and I know that much. All great souls. Never stop creating your videos. He saw this, I promise you that much. I found this accidentally and I expect to see some more of your work.

@@gioiaferrante Thanx! I'll keep making them...as long as I can or as long as they allow me to. As I love not only listen to but also watch music videos, I like to make videos for the song with no such...so I can enjoy it...In my private HD collection, I got close to 5 thousand music videos. I have made videos for, mostly, R.E.M., but also for LIVE, BELLY, BAD RELIGION, GRANT-LEE BUFFALO, MIDNIGHT OIL, MAGNAPOP, etc...Thus, i got my own MTV at home...i sometimes stay for 3 hours watching music videos. I don't think that all the videos I've made (around 110) are good but i'm proud of some: "Sing For The Submarine", is one of them. I am right now working on a video for "Carnival Of Sorts (Box Cars)"...making the gargoyle out of playing dough...I'll let you know when it's uploaded, if you are interested.

I can't understand why Michael stipe never learnt to play an instrument I'm sure if had really persevered he would have been able to learn something so he could play it in concert. I'm not saying he didn't have a fabulous voice I almost feel tormented every time I hear him sing .

There’s a reason the band didn’t tour in support of this album, the songs really don’t translate well live (save for Ignoreland and maybe Sidewinder) They tried to beef this one up live and it didn’t turn out well
