There are several updates for the goat story: apparently the lady spent a few nights in jail and her husband used pratically all their money to bail her out. Everyone is ashamed of her, both her family and town folks. Except that due to Covid, her husband lost his job and they are now struggling. OP is thinking of dropping the charges as to not make things worse for them. I think he is too nice, if someone had selfishly tried to steal my cats, even if that person is at the bottom of a hole, I'll take a shovel and keep digging myself. Even more if it was something premeditated for days.

So, check this out, about a decade ago, I dated a young single father, of two small children. In the beginning, it was good, but over time, it became clear I was nothing more than a babysitter for his kids. (In reference to the Mr. Rogers kitty cat story.) I used to do that as a kid. Mr. Rogers was a show I loved when I was younger. I would do it around the house to be cute until there was a point when I was asked to stop. Though around that time of my life every summer, my parents would take me and my siblings up to this children's museum in Pennsylvania that had a whole room dedicated to the sweater-wearing cinnamon roll of a man. There, they'd have these puppets that looked like the characters and I'd wear the cat one and entertain some of the other kids in the museum. They found it amusing even if my family didn't. That was about 15 years ago. I'm past that part of my life, though I look back at that time of my life every once in a while and smile.

Fizel Shiba Oh I knew that’s what Zealot meant. I was meaning in terms of that causing bad rap enough to not like them. Theoretically it would be Christians who would associate that much bad rap. Others don’t really care plus in warmer climates you don’t find sheep since there is no need for wool, so the most common and numerous ungulate farm animal is the goat and it doesn’t have bad rap in those places at all. @@JDM-is-my-name You're right! But, the way I figure it, and it has proven to work, is that I don't owe anyone any explanation as to why I don't. I state I don't babysit and leave it at that. If they want to beg and cajole, I am engaging in THEIR argument, which I refuse to do. I shouldn't have to state my reasons. I find that making excuses only extends the argument and I don't need to offer any. I raised my three and am raising two of my daughter's children. I just don't feel I need to explain that in response. I spent a lot of years doing things for other people. I'm in my 60's now. I enjoyed most of it, but, some people were vampires, emotional vampires, that sapped me dry with their drama and needs of me. Not any more. Sigh.

My neighbors show goats so I've lived next to 10-45 goats at time for my whole life(almost 20 years). I've gone over to help them and even single-handedly goat-sat their 19 kids, 21 does, and 2 bucks for a weekend. Goats are freaking hilarious and super pro-revenge. One time these kids that lived down the road jumped the fence and started harassing and trying to ride the does. Their largest buck at the time, around 200-250 pounds was not pleased and chased them. One of the older kids, I think 17ish, tried to be a macho man and face down the buck. Needless to say, the buck kicked his ass and literally launched him over the six foot fence. They never came back. The buck was normally a big sweetheart, just don't mess with his does.
