The first OP could have saved so much face by just lying to us and saying he was buying the PS5 for his nephew or something, and we would have all been on his side, but his complete lack of social awareness let it slip that he's a PS5 scalper, one of the most hated kinds of people online with Karens themselves. The last story made me concerned for the EM's kid. I feel that..... she will do harm for the kid. She just want attention that her son is special without her son consent. I am afraid the kid will have a bad childhood with that kind of mother who seem to only care about herself.

I think that unfortunately, the kid will definitely be met with adversity later in life because of the EM's behaviour. Children know when it's not actually about them but rather about the parents all the time and the damage that does to a child is horrible.

The second story is ridiculous. I have a Hispanic friend (born and raised in Mexico City, now lives in CA), his wife is from France. They raised 3 kids and taught them all French, Spanish, and English… and all were practically fluent in all 3 languages by 4 years old. It absolutely benefits kids to learn their native language and foreign languages at a young age!

But this weekend, I pinky promise!" Rinse and repeat. Eventually you become distrustful, and start answering with "oh? Like last weekend or the 12 before it? You've been saying the same shit for XYZ time, and it never happens, cut the crap"... Which then turns into them saying "with an attitude like that, you don't deserve to go out this weekend! "Yep, heard that one before too..." Rinse and repeat

I can't denounce the story as fake just yet, especially when my experience with children drastically differs from yours. As someone who literally grew up volunteering at summer schools and helping my mom with her Pre-K class, I've learned kids are much smarter than we give them credit and can hilariously act like 'little people' lol. 😂My own nephew shocked me when he was only 7. He remembered things I didn't think kids his age would remember. When he turned 10, I was able to actually have a well-engaging conversation with him over things he connected to. So based on my experience with kids, I can't declare this story as fake because of the kid's language. We also have to remember personal recounts posted online always have the strong possibility of being altered/edited by the OP for varied reasons. Perhaps they couldn't remember the exact wording exchanged. Or maybe the wording was grammatically way off that they fixed it during post. Whatever the reason, all personal accounts posted online will not be 100% accurate to what really happened, especially if the OP doesn't want to bore/confuse the audience. Finally, Tenshi Chan's comment here rings TRUE. Plenty of parents make promises they can't keep. As I just revealed from my experience, kids DO remember. They start keeping track of things when it personally matters to them. Even more, if that child is being raised by a parent who uses emotional manipulation/pressure to get things their way (which is what all Karens do), that child will LEARN and pick up on that habit and use it against their parent (in this case, the kid reminds the mom of how long they've been breaking their promise and is actively guilt-tripping the mom to get them that PS5). So yea. In conclusion, kids aren't stupid.

It's weird logic anyway. Kids are sponges for languages at that age, they can pick up 3 or 4 no bother with minimal effort, even a 'dumb' kid. Once they're older, it gets progressively harder. Literally every 'good parenting' book or course or professional will encourage teaching any language the parents know, the more the better. If they were refusing to teach her English at all, and only Spanish, then sure, that *might* make life harder depending on where they were going to be living by then, but knowing a second language as a child doesn't make you bad at the first at all!
@akl2k7
@akl2k7 2 жыл бұрын
@@SuzanneRush Plus, knowing Spanish will help with dealing with Spanish-speakers when the kid's older, of which there are 500,000,000 across the western hemisphere and Europe. It also has a lot of roots in common with English (mainly high-brow vocabulary shared with Latin) and being able to speak it will help the kid understand Italian and regional languages of Spain quite well along with giving the kid the ability to read Portuguese and, to a more limited extent, French. It will also give the kid a huge boost in case she decides to learn any of those in the future. So, there are far more advantages to learning it than not.

Right? My kid has always been advanced academically and he was often frustrated by his classes and felt like they were holding him back or punishing him. We did get lucky with some teachers when he was little that went out of their way to give him his own assignments. Like in 1st grade when all the other kids had to write a paragraph about their favorite animal, my kid got to write an essay about WWII. Or other kids would give book reports on picture books, but the teacher would have him give reports on chapter books. But not all teachers can/will meet kids where they are like that, and not all subjects lend themselves to that kind of work (ex: that teacher had to give my kid a book of multiplication and division problems and a book of logic problems to do during math class, because otherwise he’d start talking and making trouble out of boredom). My kid also lagged socially for a long time because when he talked about things, his peers didn’t understand him or just told him he was weird. Now that he’s a teen he’s caught up, but it was rough for a while. A school like that would have been awesome. (And I don’t know where my kid gets it from, lol. I went to a school like this once a week as a child (the rest of the week I was at a public school). As an adult, I’m so thankful that my family found out about and encouraged me to do this. The “gifted” school helped to keep me mentally stimulated, and the public school helped me learn the basics and how to socialize (in large part due to ensuring I was exposed to kids of all types, rather than isolating my social experience - I think this really helped me with my EQ). For example, in 4th grade, my chosen “gifted” school classes were Shakespearean Theatre (we ended the semester by performing ‘Taming of the Shrew’) and Robotics (where we programmed a Lego car using DOS). Meanwhile, I was learning the more traditional curriculum most of the week; like fractions, cursive, and the cycle of life. I highly recommend any parents that feel like this is something that would benefit their kid to try to get it to happen (if it’s available where they live - I wish this scenario was available everywhere tbh). Speaking of, this happened in a town of 120,000 in middle America, not a big city - so it may be available, but not known about (thankfully we’ve got Google nowadays to help with the search).

Flipping sounds more like reselling - it’s not targeted, maybe you purchase a game at a garage sale because you know you can find an interested buyer. You’re adding your knowledge of the market to generate more profit. I think it’s a fine line, but scalping preys on others. The first story made me so mad because I collect dolls (what, theyre pretty and they make me happy!) and scalpers are such a massive problem in the doll community, sometimes selling dolls for double or triple the initial price (yuck). Especially because there are Walmart exclusives of the brand I collect (Rainbow High) and I don’t live in America but I can’t afford $200usd a doll for a doll that’s $45usd (about $60aud) plus shipping. Scalpers make me so mad. That last story was definitely a case of the mom wanting bragging rights. I see it in other moms way too much. One that I no longer associate with pushed her daughter to go to this really expensive private college for prestige, but complains about the cost. He daughter could have had a full ride scholarship to the local state college which is also a tier 1 research school, so not exactly a poor choice. Another mom I know has pushed her daughter (2nd grade and friends with my 1st grader) into gymnastics and all these things that she can show off. But she doesn't push academics at all, because you can't flaunt that easily. Her poor kid hears my kiddo reading words that she has trouble sounding out and doing math that she is struggling with and I just see this look of defeat in the kid's face. She isn't dumb, her mom just doesn't care about academics and would rather compete with her siblings vicariously through their kids. Raising kids shouldn't be a competition. (FYI: making sure your kid is ready academically to the point of being ahead doesn't solve problems, it just gives you different ones.)

I'd been looking so much forward to going to school, so when we got a book for math and my native language class one of the first school days I pretty much treated them as play and solved them that same day. Walmart, best buy, target, etc employees can't accept tips. For 1, you don't "tip" people for backing up your story to the police 🤣 and 2. the guy is not allowed to even accept it

It wasn't until my 3rd-grade son was tested and we were told he was "gifted', and what that meant, that I understood myself a lot better. He got to go to a "gifted" school one day a week. There was no such thing in my time, and I was often bored with the lack of challenge in my classes. I never finished college, but my son has a PhD in computer science.

They let the EM be in the room for the IQ test? That's odd. No one was allowed in the room when I took the test as a terrified 6 year old, and I wasn't allowed in the room when my son took it at 9. In my case, I was terrified because I was finally newly rescued from a very abusive home. Abused 6 year old = Terrified 6 year old. I wouldn't say or do anything with out my grandma or grandpa there to be "emotional support". The therapist, rather than realize "Oh yeah, that makes sense." insisted I was "slow" and wanted an IQ test to prove it. I was told NO ONE was allowed in the room, except for the invigilator. In the end, I scored well, so rather than investigate why I was still silent and scared, the therapist decided I'd "come around eventually and didn't need therapy"... In my son's case, he was doing he usual "I'm bored and you're not challenging me" behavior in grade school. The teacher and guidance counselor was convened he had ADD or "some other disorder". I had to take him to an approved child psychologist for evaluation. He said he didn't think my son had any ADD traits, and in a general sense was a normal, well adjusted child, so he opted to give him an IQ test. Same thing though; I was not allowed in the room, and the test was given semi spur of the moment to "prevent coaching". So why was EM allowed to be in the room?

One of my favorite stories is about a linguist who only spoke to his infant son in Klingon, as an experiment. The kid naturally picked up Klingon. Everyone else spoke Swedish with the kid, since this took place in Sweden. The kid naturally picked up Swedish as well. The kid, totally unprompted learned that Klingon got him nowhere in society, so when Klingon didn't work he switched language. And when the kid realized that Dad understood Swedish as well the kid responded less and less in Klingon and more in Swedish. He didn't forget the language since he understood his father, but he chose the most effective language. tl;dr No need to tell strangers what language they should use with their kids. The kids will figure out what works best by themselves...
