Growing up with vitiligo that's been rather interesting. In the past I've had rude people ask me about my skin condition not in the nicest way. I Remember when I was 18 this lady asked me what happened to your skin did you burn yourself? Me being a smart-ass I responded yes indeed I I burnt myself in a fire trying to save a 6 month old baby. Lady didn't know how to respond to that. The funny thing is that we were in the public transportation and I kind of scold her about it, telling her it's not polite to be pointing out people's physical defects. I told her it would be like me pointing out that she's 100 pounds overweight . But I keep those comments to myself it's none of my business how obese you are. The face that this lady made was priceless

Have it myself, it runs in the family. It comes and goes with time at my body, but my grandma and my uncle have it everywhere. They can not make it unseen. I have to say, that I never met anyone who was disgusted by it. Some people just ask, because it looks interesting. I live in Germany, maybe the people here are simply not that bothered by it. When I explained it, people always tend to be like "Ok, that´s how it is, let´s go on with life."

Remember, if an EP/Karen tries to leave their kids without permission, threaten to call the police and CPS if they do. *Then* call CPS/police when they do. That aside, story 3? That's r/insaneparents, not entitled parents
@agentmaryland1239
@agentmaryland1239 2 жыл бұрын
Well, the entitlement portion of the story comes from the fact the MIL demanded $5,000 that she was no longer entitled to because she realized she was losing her chances to get free money and when they refused to give it to her, she basically made it so they lived on the street. She didn't care if they got raped, attacked, killed, etc, she just wanted her money. That's all she cared about. So it's kind of both Entitled and Insane parent. Dunno how she expected them to even come up with enough money to pay her when she's forcing them to live in hotels and on the street where keeping a job is insanely difficult. But that's entitled and insane parents for you, they don't have enough braincells to think 5 steps ahead of the current moment they live in.

Vitiligo Story: I really breaks my heart that there are a lot of stories where someone breaks down when confronted in that sort of way. I’m sorry, I know I’ll catch flack for this but I don’t think the third story is true. There’s just too many holes in it. For me the biggest one is looking into the previous post on op’s profile. In a previous r/AITA post op states that he had warning before being kicked out, and that op had a GIRLFRIEND not a fiancé and the gf dumped op. Eventually in the r/AITA op says that a friend housed them and helped them look for housing. I want to believe its real because it being fake is a bit of a punch to the gut for everyone who is trying to help op. But I highly doubt that op is being truthful, I’m sorry

I mean, that's Karens in a nutshell. Their kid can't breathe because they have asthma and can't find their inhaler? Why call an ambulance when clearly the Karen knows better? I've heard a lot of horror stories about Karens with sick or injured kids and they refuse to take them to a doctor when it's something really bad, but when it's a scrape or bump they demand the finest surgeons drop everything to check out their child. Some people shouldn't have children, I wish the parents of the Karens and Kevins would have learned that before reproducing.

Yeah, it's pretty clear that she's putting up her kids as a defense of her own bigotry. This is a very common tactic. You’re not crazy- honestly as an artist, I love drawing people with vitiligo. The difference in tones makes for wonderful shading practice, and the models are all so gorgeous. I’ve never fully understood why others can be so cruel to those who look different from them, when people with vitiligo, albinism, lots of freckles, birthmarks, or moles are beautiful and unique. There’s been much more acceptance for those physical traits now a days, which I’m glad for. I’ve never seen those people as ugly or wrong, just unique and beautiful. Everyone is a piece of art, with their own style and skin and face, and that should be celebrated. If I ran into Op when on vacation, I would probably end up asking them if I could draw them, because meeting someone so beautiful in real life is a moment I’d like to capture. That and because from the post, OP seemed to be really insecure, and I’d be happy to ramble bout how beautiful they are. Currently I dress in an alt style(as much as I can), and I dye my hair very bright colors. If someone stares, it’s not cause I look bad, it’s cause I’m eye catching and beautiful, and that’s something I really want to make sure others know. Next time you see someone in alt fashion, or with dyed hair, or skin that isn’t perfectly smooth or one color, tell them they look good, complement them, smile at them, ask where they got that amazing *insert bag, outfit, nail polish, etc * and wish them a good day. Everyone deserves to know they look amazing and feel confident in their skin, and saying that helps a lot when jerks like that Karen decide to get pissy over nothing.

The fourth OP actually has.another story: This happened about 2 years ago, however I was reminded of this encounter by a recent post, which was about Karen going nuts about someone wearing shorts. I'd like to preface it by saying that I have a vitiligo, which at the time wasn't spread as much as it is now (notably face), and the time I have just recently fully recovered from an accident which has left me with one huge and several smaller scars across my entire left arm, all of them most likely lifelong. All of this was completely covered by the slightly oversized hoodie. I guess you can see where this is going. Side note: I (F, 18 as of now) have been (and still am) given a ton of crap about the skin condition and the scarring, so it kind of wasn't out of ordinary for me. However today, I'd say I'm pretty proud of it. The hoodie was a metal band merch, I don't remember which one though, probably Iron Maiden. Onto the story of my malicious compliance. Please keep in mind that this happened 2 years ago, so something might and will be off. I was at my local privately owned grocery shop to do some shopping. I was minding my own business, when Karen and her kid (could've been 9) passed around me. At first she didn't say anything. Then, some time again, I saw her again. This time I wasn't so fortunate though. Karen: ,,Ahem, do you think it's appropriate to walk around wearing that satanic thing and possibly traumatising children with that image?" Me: ,,I'm sorry?" Karen: ,,You have to take it off!" Me: ,,I don't understand why, but I'd rather not." Karen: ,,Just take that satanic thing off and don't be so disrespectful!" K: begging to go Me: ,,I'm sorry, but that won't be possible for personal reasons, and besides, I don't have to listen to strangers." Karen: ,,Yes, you have to listen to the elders! Now take it off!" I somehow thought that it would be a idea to actually comply. I took the hoodie off, unveiling the results of my skin going through identity crisis and me being a clumsy idiot. Karen: mix of disgusted, taken aback and dumbfounded face Me: ,,Told you I have reasons." Karen: ,,What the fuck is that! (to her kid) Don't look honey!" Me: ,,So I guess I should put it back on?" Enter the store worker - SW SW: ,,Is there a problem?" Karen: ,,Yes! To have to kick this satanist out!" Me, now with the hoodie back on: ,,Actually, you should kick HER out for harassing others over what they wear." Karen: ,,Shut up you disgusting bitch!" SW to me: ,,May I ask what happened?" Karen: "She was wearing this disgusting thing, then she took it off to scare my sweet angel with her disgusting satanic scars and whatever that other thing is!" Me: "Actually, you told me to take it off and didn't heed my warning." Karen: ,,Shut up! I don't even understand how could someone do that to themselves!" Me: ,,Please ma'am, I didn't do this to myself, it's not my fault!" tearing up SW: attempts to say something Karen: ,,Don't lie to me you little disgusting bitch! I bet no one likes you, so you do this to yourself!" Since I've been bullied to hell and back because of the vitiligo, this hurt like hell and I snapped. Me: ,,Shut up! I bet no one likes you, because you're ugly fat hag that has nothing else to other than insulting others!" I then ran of and left the shopping cart...with stuff in it...there. I don't know what happened after. EDIT: Thank you all so much for the support, means a lot to me.

Vitiligo was once seen as someone afflicted with it being "unclean" or contagious with something like leprosy. With many famous people, like Michael Jackson, afflicted with it and not hiding their disease it has become normalised. Most people don't care about it and see the person not the affliction. However Karen's are our species mutation in devolution, both cultural and social, so they will always be like that.

For the story with Vitiligo, I had a crush on a girl with Vitiligo who was absolutely beautiful. She was the pretty unique girl that all the guys wanted and girls were envious to say the least. She had issues with bullies though, mainly the bitchy snobby cheerleaders who think they're God's gift to the world. They bullied her, but she just told them off and had about everybody tell them to piss off. The cheerleaders became the most hated people in the school because they would rather make enemies and hurtful social media posts. One girl who had a metabolism issue where she couldn't lose weight and was always a bit big, she was the sweetest girl ever, very compassionate and sociable. But she was so sick of the cheerleaders that she actually hit one of them with her car. The cheerleader's parents of course wanted to press charges, but were slapped back with an even bigger lawsuit for the counts against their daughters. The charges were (from memory), assault on 39 people, sexually assaulting 7 students, 19 accounts of vandalism, 43 cases of blackmail, 6 cases of attempted bribery, 12 cases of forging signatures, 23 accounts of theft of school property (school computers, teacher's personal devices, etc, etc). They were so hated that some of their victims ACTUALLY brainstormed their deaths. But when they messed with Vitiligo and big girls who were popular for their niceness and positivity, they went from being tolerated to absolute estrangement, and people bullied THEM. You'd be amazed at how they went from snobby, to tattling on EVERYONE WHO GLARED AT THEM. They got brushed aside, teachers and staff were so done with their BS that they just told them: You brought this upon yourselves. Funny how you can dish it but can't take it. But enough about bullies, let me tell you about Vitiligo girl. I had a major crush on Vitiligo girl, I asked her to a few dances and she said yes, but as friends. Turns out she was lesbian, so guys were obviously hurt by that. But everybody just accepted it and let her be unapologetically, herself. Big girl was always up for dates and such. (I call her that because she always told people to call her Big Mama, or Biggi, she was awesome! And no I don't have any problems with big people, I'm overweight by 59 pounds) She actually asked ME out. I said yes and we actually dated for about a year. We broke up, not because of issues with each other, but that we wanted to do different things in life, we had different goals and ambitions. We parted as friends and we still talk and hang out, even after us graduating and heading out to college and the workforce(s) So yeah rSlash, I agree with you. People with Vitiligo are very beautiful and unique people. That Karen can drop dead, everybody is a beautiful person who just needs that someone who makes them realize that they're so much more. If anyone read all this, you matter too. You're a beautiful person who deserves a good chance in the world, don't let people belittle you and make fun of your appearance. Be unapologetically, you.

Hey! That last story was a repeat, wasn't it? Anyway... To the OP with the Vitiligo: I am so so glad you've learnt to see the beauty in you! As kids, we had one kid in class with Vitiligo. The culture of our school was such that acceptance was a natural response taught to us. Then, a rich entitled kid joined our class and her mom made a big deal about her kid having to be in the vicinity of someone 'like that'.... She demanded that the kid with Vitiligo be removed from the school. We came from a small, tight knit community in a smal town and no one stood for this nonsense. The principal told her she could take her child elsewhere if she wanted but what she was asking for would never happen. She stayed grumpy about the whole thing but her kid we managed to turn. We made friends with her, showed her how hanging out with a person who looks different doesn't change anything. By the end of the year, she became best friends with the boy her mom couldn't stand to see. Entitled mom eventually moved her to a different school and both of them were heartbroken. They stayed in touch via letters sent through us friends (this was way before kids had phones and social media.) They ended up reconnecting once they were older, started dating and have now been married for 9yrs! EM still doesn't like him. They had a baby girl a few years ago and she inherited the Vitiligo. EM went batsh*t crazy but baby's mommy is fiercely protective of both, her husband and baby and makes it a point to teach her to be proud of her uniqueness. They've gone no contact with the EM after she tried to take the grand daughter to some quack for a remedy without consent from the parents. That baby is the cutest thing ever with parents who dote on her and I'm glad we are moving towards a world where she may not have to endure bullying...

The stigma around vitiligo has really started to deteriorate every since Michael Jackson, more recently too because more people are trying to be more accepting of everything

I'm surprised we didn't get any rSlash rage about the MiL in the third story. I don't think I've ever felt this much hate for a complete stranger before.

The story about vitiligo hurts my heart. I've been bullied by people for how I looked (though I don't have the condition). Bullying takes such a toll on ones mental health. It can push you over the line of no return but people act like it's not a serious issue until it's too late.

America’s Next top Model brought vitiligo to the table when they had a girl competing who had it. Her name is Winnie Harlow. She has modelled for loads of fashion houses including Victoria’s Secret. She is beautiful and her vitiligo seems symmetrical, and amazing.

At age 6, my parents moved us back to my mums home town to be closer to family, where I met this 1 boy in school who was 5 years older than me. Well this boy would bully me relentlessly. Calling me "chink" (I'm white but have almond shaped eyes??) and all sorts of other cruel names, but the absolute worst was "you're an alien, go back to your home planet freak". Now this is cruel regardless, but when you take into account that the kid had a strawberry birth mark that covered the entire left side of his face, I was kinda shocked, upset, and super confused how I was the alien when he looked different, not me (remember 6 year old logic, so please be kind people) So I stopped going out in the playground and, instead, I'd stay in the classroom with the teacher to help get things tidied away or ready for the next lesson, and avoid this boy and his friends. I was a really happy bubbly kid who just wanted to be "best friends" with everyone, so this hurt. A lot. Mum and dad weren't happy. BUT, it turns out that while the kids were bullying me with all this "alien" crap, the parents were doing the same thing to my mum! Stating non local (our County) people coming and taking up other kids spaces was wrong, we were "foreigners" blah blah blah. Well, 1 day it somehow slipped that not only was my mum born and raised in this town, but her dad was the chief inspector at our towns police station! After that, 99% of the comments to her stopped, but I was "chink" until the day I left school. This was back in the late 80s early 90 (showing my age there!), so school anti bullying policies were non existent. Fun times. I will never understand why people feel the need to comment, pick on, bully or abuse people who are different from them. I mean, if everyone looked and acted the same way, life, and the world in general, would be SUPER boring! Variety IS the spice of life people!

That last story is why you should always try to be nice and cooperative with people in the fast food and retail sector. If you're nice, they can get you what you want. But if you're not, they can absolutely ensure that you don't.

That last teen with her mom, omg flashbacks. If you can believe it, incidents like this only just barely make the list of reasons I don't talk to my mom anymore. Be strong kids, you'll ditch'em eventually!

I had a sign language counselor in primary affected with vitiligo. I seemed to have been a bit slower in development in speaking skills. As it was so far back, I do not have any recollection on my initial reaction to his condition, though I do remember bit and pieces of simple curiosity. My parents approved of him greatly, gifting him much of my sign language materials as my verbal skills began to catch back up with my general age group for any families in major financial strain, (I now have absolutely no memory of ASL at this point which I somewhat regret). That was around 20 years ago, he's retired now spending time to volunteer at a nearby wildlife sanctuary with his wife. I even had the opportunity to work under him again a few years ago as a field intern while in college, as well as attend the occasional lecture given by him with the local historical society. And though the the area affected has increased a somewhat noticeable amount over those two decades, he has always had that same smile and addictive positive outlook on life in nearly everything I have ever seen him put himself working towards. A bit inspiring for a young autistic kid like me back then, and as a young adult like me to this day.

The only vitiligo that seems to be celebrated is the rarer, symmetrical patterning that makes people look like real life scifi heroes, while the more common random "patching" is still viewed with revulsion.

There was a girl in middle school who went to my church and had vitiligo. I over heard the middle school pastor say "If you're parents would have started going to church before you were born this disease would have never happened to you"

People with vitiligo look cool as hell, like some old renaissance painter painted them. Or some Picasso art works, I personally don't like Picasso's works but I still appreciate them

I have vitiligo splotches, and during swimming in middle school, they'd call me Michael Jackson. You can't see it unless I wear something that'll expose my shoulder blade and had them and even poke at it, asking if it hurts.
