I don’t know if this has been already commented, but that last item is rosin, which is used by violinists, violists, cellists, and bassists to make their bows grip the strings better. Being made out of processed tree sap, it’s shiny in much the same way amber is before it is used. Upon use, it’s surface becomes cloudy (I suspect due to a layer of rosin dust that sticks to the surface).
@Kiku912 жыл бұрын
I remember as a kid (I played viola) we were supposed to scratch a new rosin with a key to make the surface more powdery. When I was older, I realized it was not as necessary so it was a weird tradition in my circle.

The vanilla slice, also called a custard slice, isn't the same as an ice cream sandwich. It is usually set custard between two pieces of pastry, topped with icing. Here in the UK, anyway.

If it's got custard in it, that's a custard slice. A vanilla slice has fresh cream.
@BritishSneko2 жыл бұрын
@@alexvaraderey A vanilla slice and a custard slice are the same thing; they're a variation of the mille-feuille that use gelatin-set creme patissiere which is basically a thicker custard. Even the original mille-feuille uses creme patissiere (pastry cream), the difference is that it has more layers of puff pastry and its filling isn't thickened with gelatin, just flour. They're called vanilla slices because creme patisserie contains vanilla. I also live in the UK and "vanilla slice" is just the standard name.

At 7:53 I think it's a new bit of rosin (processed tree sap) for the bows of stringed instruments. I'm leaning toward it being cello or bass rosin because of the color; violin and viola rosin is usually more of a translucent golden color. It comes in that packaging to protect it and to prevent you from getting your finger oils on the bow when you're rosining it because that ruins the horse-hair. :)

The forbidden lozenge is called a rosin! You put it on your bow for bowed instruments (like violin, viola etc.), which helps it to create friction and make the notes as you play them a lot clearer. That rosin hasn't been touched yet though, as once you start using it you'll see white dust all over, and that's what ends up on our bows. My teacher always used to tell me to use the frog of my bow to create an opening cuz otherwise you're just rubbing on a shell
