I kinda like to imagine the reason John seemingly talks to himself so much if because he's maintaining a video diary as per his therapist's orders? specifically those times when he's seemingly just talking to no one about how he's feeling or what he's about to do. there's just also times he's being really down and is basically having an episode where he's hallucinating Garfield still being alive. or just momentarily forgets it. it recontextualizes stuff interestingly imo?

I read that sometimes Nermal’s owners leave him at Johns house when they’re away sometimes, but this changes the context from leaving with with another cat owner to, “let’s leave him with that crazy lonely guy, who always wanted a cat.”

The different ways taking Garfield out of a comic affects it 1. The comic makes basically no sense 2. Garfield is dead/a hallucination 3. It sorta works as a completely different comic not related to Garfield at all but is still a bit strange 4. The comic seems so normal without Garfield that it underflows back to being hilarious Also, 3 & 4 may sometimes seem to just be Jon just doing random stuff with the camera strangely not centered on him, & with him sometimes staring at some random spot

as far as i know garfield doesnt speak we just get his thought bubbles so the changing garfield out with a real cat and removing his bubbles would actually be accurate. the comics get a bit wierd when you read them that way but it would be more accurate
