It's a reference to another story by the same author, in which a Xeno kicked Sarge's dog "to see if he was tough enough", then fist bumped Sarge and congratulated him on the toughness of his pet. That poor Xeno was so sorry for what he did, he uh... ripped himself in half.

Hearing all of what The captain had running in thoughts I started to ask myself, is it really worth it? To dedicate 1000s of generations to kill a Xeno civilization that probably won't exist any.. then I told myself on the off chance they do.... And nothing has changed.... Yes it is worth it, in the off chance that Earth is destroyed by a xeno race we should do whatever os possible and even the impossible to make them pay even if it costs billions of life's we should make so that there is nothing left of them, even their names or mentions in history should be erased.

When I was in the USMC, we received training on the AT-4' anti-tank, 4th generation. It was a recoilless launcher, with a backdraft of fire. Part of the training was to check behind you for friendlies, then yell "BACK BLAST AREA ALL SECURE!" This became a running joke amongst us, and was often said just before somebody let loose a horrific fart.
